Recommended Posts

  • Staff

Status: Customer Beta

Purpose: Improvements, fixes

Requirements: Purchased Mac Affinity Designer [from Mac App Store]

Mac App Store: Not Submitted

Download: Here

To use this beta, simply download the file from the link given above and double-click on the file to open the installer. Follow the instructions to install the beta version. The beta sits alongside the Mac App Store version and will not interfere with it.

This beta is an iteration of the current App Store release and should be used in preference to the App Store release, if you are affected by any of the issues listed below.

Fixes/Improvements:

  • Fix for 3D profile crash and Blend Ranges dialog crash
  • Fix for missing Place Image Tool icon
  • Hopefully fixed Korean Hangul text entry. Please could everyone check that text entry still works for them in their language!!!
  • Vector export improvements
  • Fix for failures when using compound objects inside groups with Constraints set on them.
  • Font support improvements - specifically relating to fonts which substitute spaces or have truncated Unicode CMAP tables.
  • Transparent TGA import support.
  • Fix for deleting a node of a bitmap fill causing crash.
  • Improved pixel painting smoothing. Any pixel-based painting tools should now have better smoothing by default.
  • Fix for combo boxes causing crashes for certain users on High Sierra.
  • Fix for exporting JPEG automatically choosing to export clips as paths which is a poor default and causes confusion.
  • Fix for text objects being created outside the hierarchy of the artboard they were supposed to be created in.
  • Fix for rotated text bounding boxes being incorrect and for disappearing text following Power-Duplicate.
  • Fixed sporadic hanging when opening many image files at once.
  • Fixed crashing bug when exporting certain large PSDs.
  • Fixed a number of UI memory leaks.
  • Added special case PSD import code for “SketchClub” PSD files (they should fix this!).
  • Fixed PSD export of Fill layers.
  • Fixed UI labels on macOS versions prior to Mavericks.
  • SVG import can now handle gradients with missing x1 or y1 values.
  • Assorted PDF export improvements.
  • Localisation improvements.
  • Paste and file-drop of PDF format files will now honour the DPI, as per File->Place.
  • Fix for marching ants not showing on a rotated canvas.
  • Miscellaneous other fixes and tweaks.

A strange bug I've found

1. Create a square

2. Shift Alt click the square to duplicate it and move it to the right keep the shift key pressed but let go of the Alt key and snap the square with the first square.

3. Whilst still pressing the shift key press the right arrow twice to move the second square.

4. Press shift Alt on the second square and move it to the right as soon as you start to do this the second square will snap back to the right edge of the first square.

Thank you MattP. I kept checking my Beta version and there was no reminder of the new update. Today I decided to check the forum and found out that there was an update...a few that I have missed. Why the change in the notification of updates for the Beta version?

MEB,

I noticed the same thing as GRScott. I launched the previous beta and it went ahead and launched. It never instructed me to download a newer version but because I had seen Matt's post, I knew that there was a newer version.

Hi, MEB. Never had this problem before this. And I have been around since the first days, using the same firewall, antivirus etc.

It looks like I've been absent for the last three betas. Oh dear. Nevertheless, it is really good to see this list of improvements, and I can confirm the issue of bitmap fills resulting to a crash has been fixed. There are still two previous issues which still persist (nothing huge). Joining paths with "Scale with object" ticked off still results to stroke increases, and pressure cannot be applied to strokes if they were started with the Brush Tool. This is even after the brush is converted to line.

The website is still a work in progress. The "Comics" and "Shop" sections are not yet ready. Feel free to connect with me and let me know what you like or what can be improved. You can contact me here, on my contact page, YouTube channel, or Twitter account. Thanks and have a great day!

for now, the Beta seems works great with Korean.

However, when if selecting font, Beta just stop working. I have to do force quick to re-open it.

I hopefully, your team has found the solutions for Korean language and would like to have final version with fully working.

Waited so long, but thanks for solving it.

What Owenr said is correct, for this is now an old thread. What Matt has in his description was before the new retail version was released. Now that it is out, none of the betas in the forum will run. If not yet updated to 1.6.1, you can download the latest version from the Mac App Store. These threads are more for working out bugs.

Yep, same thing in the Windows version as expected. This bug was recently introduced by the devs and was already reported a while ago, but unfortunately nothing was done to fix it so far.
