Locking layers vs hiding layers

Recommended Posts

Hi! i have a question regarding the difference between locking layers and hiding them. I currently have a lot of layers in my project and I was wondering if i clicked off /hid a few of them and locked some others, will they both be safe from being moved around while im working on a particular layer?

Both locking & hiding a layer prevents it from being selected on the canvas & thus moved by accident. Both locked & hidden layers can also be selected on the Layers panel, the difference here being a hidden selected layer can be still be moved (using the Move tool, cursor keys, or Transform panel) while a locked layer cannot.

ok thank you ! so i need to lock them as well and not just hide.

Either that or just be careful about selecting a hidden layer on the Layers panel.
