This short video is about how to create offset paths in Affinity Designer.  Offset paths are a powerful tool that designers use to create exact duplicates of a vector object shape and then use these duplicate as individual vector objects.  With the ability to create an exact size for your offset, you've have a powerful tool to create fantastic eye catching layers in you digital art. Creating offset paths in Affinity Designer is quick and it's easy. I show you how to setup the keyboard shortcut and with one click you are ready to create offsets for any object, shape, text, or line.  Offset paths are one of the secrets that designers use to create stunning computer graphics.  Create your own website graphics, digital art, blog posts illustrations, instagram images, and go ahead and brag on twitter!  Happy Creating :-) Jen

The method above is a (cumbersome) workaround until the Offset Tool arrives in a later version.

I anticipate an elegant and versatile tool that works directly on canvas, but who knows what Affinity have up their digital sleeves?

Is there a way to do this without expanding the strokes?

If you don't need vector, you can for example write your text in black, dupplicate this layer, add the stroke in a flashy colour, and rasterize the layer.

Next, you select the black in the letters and you delete it. You'll be able to add effects to this "stroke".

Has anything changed in AD in the last year regarding offsetting paths? Is this cumbersome and frustrating option posted here still the only way? This basic feature like "Offset Path" which has been in Illustrator for 20 years still unavailable in AD? Is there any chance to see this coming any time soon?

Googled "offset path affinity designer" and came across this. This is seriously the only way to do an offset path in AD? I'm a designer of bags and backpacks and I use that tool more than just about any other in AI for quickly adding seam allowances to my patterns. I found out about AD today and downloaded the trial. I guess for now I'm going to have to keep paying the ridiculous Adobe tax...

I don't know why people are not using the Appearance Studio, you can add as many strokes to a curve as you want in there.

I have no idea what Appearance Studio is. So maybe that's why.

Okay, so I did that. I have a 13pt stroke in black with a 10pt stroke in red.

Now, how do I remove the red so that all that is left is a 3pt black stroke that is 10pt outside the blue box?

I don't want multiple strokes on a curve, I want the equivalent of an offset path in AI.

Okay so looks like if I go to Layer > Expand Stroke, then select both of the two curves that are now created from the two strokes, and use the Subtract button, I get the result I want. Which... is basically exactly what the video was about in the first post of the thread. So... still not what I'm looking for.714329585_ScreenShot2020-10-27at11_14_32AM.thumb.png.20059edbea62432625749b41248b71c0.png940396110_ScreenShot2020-10-27at11_14_38AM.thumb.png.0f65f094ce7de14460f5cda100e39fe2.png

I guess I could always fake it by just doing a 10pt white stroke on top of a 13pt black stroke, but that still means it's missing the functionality I'm actually looking for. I'm on my last day of my Affinity Designer trial, so I guess until that functionality is introduced without having to do these workarounds I'll be sticking with AI.

This just needs to be a menu option like Illustrator – something like Object => Offset Path => <enter value>. So much faster than this method.

I totally agree.

@Kevin Jacobs An offset tool (called the contour tool) was added to Designer in 1.9 and allows you to type an offset, or add an offset visually.
