I have a Ugee pen tablet (UG-2150), and I'm pretty bummed with the issues I've been having with it. Yesterday, the pen stopped working all together. As I tried updating the drivers, I was told that there is no tablet connected. And this stinks, because I have a lot drawings I need to do. The monitor is working, but the pen is not. I finally decided to leave Ugee, and I am considering perhaps getting a Huion instead. For my workflow, I am interested in getting a pen tablet monitor, not a graphic tablet.

Of course, I searched the forum for similar issues, but before considering this purchase, does any know how a Huion pen tablet monitor works with the Affinity products? Affinity Designer is the main program I use. It would be horrible to see if there are compatibility issues.

The website is still a work in progress. The "Comics" and "Shop" sections are not yet ready. Feel free to connect with me and let me know what you like or what can be improved. You can contact me here, on my contact page, YouTube channel, or Twitter account. Thanks and have a great day!

Hi, my sister does illustrations for her books and considered a Ugee but after reading a lot issues with drivers and also almost being scammed on Amazon, she decided on a XP-Pen Artist 22 Drawing Monitor, You can read her review on her website Whispersonthewing.com

Alot of issues with these devices are because you need to completely remove the previous device drivers and and also make sure no other drivers for other tablets exist. She hasn't got Affinity yet but I'll talk her into it eventually lol!

I'll get her to download the trial and see how it runs for you.

Thank you so much for taking the time to show this to me. I never heard of XP-Pen Artist, but I like what I read from her review. I will do some research on this.

I don't know how accurate this website is, but according to fakespot.com, there are many sellers who create fake reviews. Copying the URL from Amazon over to FakeSpot, it provides the true ranking. UG-2150 has a B, GT-129 has a D, GT-220 has an F, and DTK2200 and XP-Pen Artist both have an A. Like I said, I don't know how accurate that site is, but it would be sad if all those negative rankings are true when being said otherwise on Amazon.

Well in my experience it's always best to also have first somewhere the chance to take a real look (touch it yourself) on computer based devices etc. So some place where they might have one or two such devices and you can give them a play and see if they come close to what you individually expect here. - In bigger cities there are sometimes shops or even sometimes theme related exhibitions etc. where such devices are shown and one can probably get in touch to get a first impression of those, also related here to the overall hardware built quality, interfaces, pens and haptic usage terms etc.

@v_kyr I agree with that but most of the Huion, Ugee and XP-Pen tablets are Online purchases, It would be nice to see specialist Drawing/tablet shops selling them so you could go in and play for half an hour. I use a Aiptek MTU-001 tablet that I've had for ages its a Wacom Clone and very good, it was a lot cheaper than it's counter-part.

Luckily where I live, we have near one of the biggest Computer fairs once a year where one often can see such devices, get in direct contact with those and so get some first real impression and demonstration about them. There are usually also a bunch of OEM and asian exhibitors of such devices and also importantly other people (visitors) to come in contact with, which already used such devices and know to tell some of the pros and cons of those. - Further we have near here one of the largest consumer electronics stores with a retail space of 18,000 square meters on six floors, though you won't find there everything and thus computer fairs are often a better place to see and compare certain computer domain devices.

Thank you for everyone's feedback. Also, I updated the topic's name. I'm feeling like it might be a good fit for me. And Alfred, and I'm really happy to see that someone else here has experience with it and that it runs on Mac.

That is really good to know. A few questions:

1. How is the color comparison between the monitor and your sister's computer?

For Ugee, I took pictures of my tablet screen and computer screen showing the difference of color back when I was trying to resolve a case with them. Colors were faded. If I have light grays in whites or dark grays in blacks, they will appear as full white or full black. Even in this forum, the gray quotes appear to me as white.

2. Has your sister had any problems since April 2017 (when she bought it)?

3. What about the pen? Is it chargeable? (My first pen for Ugee randomly fell apart.)

4. What about drivers? Should those be updated from the website on occasion?

Take also a look here (translation) in terms of short listed pros/cons.

3. The pen can be also bought separately (example here) as for most such devices and according to the manufactor product homepage (under accessories) it comes with 2x rechargeable pens, 1x pen charging cable, 8x nibs etc.

@Bri-Toon I have to work away from a few days Tomorrow and Sat, so I will pop over to my sisters on Sunday hopefully and interrogate her :D

Re issues, if she'd gotten any I would have been the first to know about it, but as far as I know she hasn't had any. Like I said I'll go and see her Sunday and I'll have a good talk about it and fill you in on any quirks etc. She is pretty tech-savvy anyway and very picky so for her to like it is a positive sign.

Thank you for doing that for me. I really appreciate it, but I hope you don't feel I'm relying too much on you.

@Bri-Toon In that video there I above referenced the guy is saying that it is pretty the same product as the UG-xxxx, so I don't think there will be any differences here at all, since it will be just a rebranded product. So it's questionable if you will win anything by that one in contrast to what you already have and use. - And since they are the same products, pens and drivers etc. should also be pretty much the same here.

@v_kyr

I noticed that in the video. Thanks. It's possible I could've gotten a bad version, because there was no mention of the problems I was having in that video. Something real dumb I did in the past was that I bought the Ugee from Ebay rather than from the official website. The price, the new condition, the reviews, and everything seemed great. I realized after various past purchases, hardware and software should never be bought from Ebay. From now on, I'm sticking with the manufacturer. I should've from the beginning.

It would make a lot of sense if that's where the problems were coming from and the tablet was prepared wrong by Ebay, but support-wise, Ugee isn't so great. I added a support ticket yesterday about the pen not working and tablet suddenly being disconnected, and I was told to use the pen for hours and see if that works?

Maybe I’m misunderstanding what you’re saying, Brian, but I’ve never heard of eBay getting things “prepared” for selling on their site. It’s up to the seller to make sure that the goods match the description in the listing.

I guess I worded it confusingly. I meant it was prepared wrong from someone using Ebay's services. Therefor, I meant Ebay overall may have been a wrong decision by me, since the the selling procedure can be by anyone.

Well, I am not an expert and I've never have a chance to test Wacom Cintiq so I cannot compare it with my XP-Pen Artist 15.6. But this tablet works quite well with Affinity Photo and Designer. I haven't got any errors, the apps "are talking" with pen pretty good. Only problem I have is that express key for Undo doesn't work in AP or AD for whatever reason. But Brush and Eraser tool can be switched with express keys so for me it's OK.

Here is short speed video showing my poor drawing skills in AD using XP-Pen tablet ;)

Thank you for sharing, Milos,

That's okay that the express key doesn't work. I use a wireless keyboard for the key commands. The more I see people use this tablet with Affinity products, the more happy I become. I have a question. Twice in the past, I disconnected my laptop from my Ugee to show people a video or take my computer with me on vacation, or whatever. When I connected my computer back to the Ugee, the Ugee became unresponsive for a few days. Is this normal behavior? Thankfully, my tablet now is working again, but I'm not confident it will stay that way. This time, there was nothing to cause it to stop working to begin with.

I wonder if I can connect one of these XP-Pen tablets with an 2011 iMac as it has no HDMI port.

Hmm, maybe with an thunderbolt to hdmi adapter (?), in case those work. There are also Mini Displayport to HDMI adapters from Belkin listed on Apples site.

As the XP-Pens are on sale I´m close to get the Artist16Pro. But as I´m on an iMac only it has no HDMI-port.

So my guess a Mini Displayport to HDMI adapter won´t  do it. The friendly Chat Bot from their site just say HDMI-to-USB adaptor - didn´t link to any brand. There are so many variations like 30Hz TypeC or 60Hz. I´m fairly lost. Anyone here uses XP-Pen Displays on iMac probably?

Cheers
