Cuttin people out

Recommended Posts

Hey, I want to cut out people using iPad and pencil, but somehow after Ive done that and masked the rest of the image out, cutout appears very jagged, refining does help in some parts and in some it just adds extra info I dont need. Is there a tutorial or maybe someone can share a good workflow that they use for cutting things out smoothly?

Hi Yurrii,

Please see the attached screenshot.

I was able to get good results.  My method of working, is to switch to the Selection studio and use the selection brush to select everything around the person, i then invert the selection and use the Refine option to tidy the selection up if needed.

If you'd like to share the image in question, i and others might be able to offer further advice.

If you are using Selection brush set the brush size smaller say 1.5 pixels. Use mode to switch between add and subtract to nudge the selection in and out. The picture is not very high resolution and looks pretty jagged when you zoom in on arms. Makes selection a little ragged.

As @DM1 has pointed out, the image isn't high resolution.  There isn't a clean edge to select, so the cutout will never be 100% smooth on the edges.  Using a small brush and switching modes, again as suggested by DM1, you'll get a better selection but the low resolution of image won't help the final cutout.

Totally agree, original image in project is far to low a resolution to make a successful cutout. Garbage in, garbage out.
