ReneCGN
How can I place graphics within Designer by linking instead of embedding them? In Illustrator I can choose between these to options.
Staff MEB Posted January 28, 2018 Staff Share Posted January 28, 2018 Hi ReneCGN, Welcome to Affinity Forums Linked files are not supported yet. This will come in a future update. ReneCGN 1 Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
MDW5
Not having the option to link to PDF files is a real let-down, considering that so many other aspects of the software are really nice. Maybe it's not a natural thing to want if you are a pure graphics designer, but as a scientist, it's become part of my workflow to make lots of figures in e.g. matlab or python, which I can then link to and keep organised in a figure; if I want to make a small change (e.g. change the axes range), I can do that on the matlab end, remake the PDF and the figure will automatically update, and then only when everything is finalized I will embed them to make the small edits for publication. I decided this year to let my Illustrator licence expire and buy Affinity Designer on recommendation - but did not anticipate that Affinity Designer would not have this feature. Would be top of my wish-list!
Staff MEB Posted January 28, 2018 Staff Share Posted January 28, 2018 Hi MDW5, Welcome to Affinity Forums Linked files will be introduced with Affinity Publisher (which will be available as a public Beta this summer). Designer should also add support for them around the same time. Przemysław and matisso 2 Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software

Wilx
MEB: I appreciate the information about Linked files. I recently purchased Designer to evaluate it. This is a very important feature for me, and I'm glad to hear it will be included in Publisher (which I eagerly await) and in Designer. Regards, Wilx
