Develop Assistant Stopped Working

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Suddenly the Develop Assistant in my copy of Affinity Photo has stopped working, specifically in the Lens Correction function, so now my RAW images open with severely mis-shapen with pronounced vignetting around the edges and corners.

I understand this is lens distortion which  is supposed to be corrected automatically if the Lens Distortion box is ticked in the Develop Assistant, when the Assistant is enabled in Assistant Manager.

Because Lens Distortion is not working in the Assistant, I am not sure Assistant is working at all.

Develop Assistant used to work, but no longer works, and this is also true in my copy of Affinity Photo Beta, which is really weird that the same issue would happen in two different Affinity programs..!!

I can (sort of) perform lens corrections manually, but it is very tedious and I'm sure I can't do as good a job as the Assistant used to do, when opening a RAW file.

Can someone here help me sort this out?

Thanks in advance,

Chaplain Mark

Hi Chaplain Mark

Have you changed camera or lens at any point? Lens correction works of a database rather than applying for any lens so it could be a recent change is not supported by the correction database at this point

Thanks

Chris,

Thank you for replying.  At this point, I am suspecting the issue is not in the Affinity software, but rather some sort of image data error in this handful of RAW image files themselves,  as the symptom presents itself on another copy of Affinity on another computer, and only on that handful of files.

To answer your question,  the camera has always been the same, a fixed-lens Canon PowerShot G5X.

To my knowledge,  my G5X is indeed supported in the RAW database for Affinity.

Thanks again,

Chaplain Mark

Hi Chaplain Mark

I'm afraid it does not seem to be on our list

Thanks

Hi, Chris,

Right you are, about my camera not appearing on the list.

It is a mystery, because every other RAW image I have opened in Affinity Photo, has the lens corrections already applied (by the Assistant I presume,) by the time the image is open on my canvas.

Yet, only the five images, all shot at the same minute in time, open with lens corrections not applied.

How strange is that????

Thanks again,

Chaplain Mark

Could you please upload a good and bad file to here please. I'm interested to see what's different

Are you looking for the RAW file, or Jpeg, or both, examples of good and bad?

Hi, Chris,

I happened upon the below list here on the forum, which seems to include both of my PowerShot cameras...

Let me know what you think, and thanks again..!!

Hi Chaplain Mark

That is a list for the camera we support physically opening RAW files from. This is different from the lens correction list which runs from a separate database which is then applied on top of this

Cheers

Hi, Chris,

I'm a bit confused;  does this mean I cannot expect the Assistant to make lens corrections to files which were created by my G5X?

It seems the RAW files which open in Affinity Photo, always have lens distortion corrected, except for the three or four files in question, examples of which I have uploaded for Paul's inspection.

Thanks in advance for clarifying.

Chaplain Mark
