ghost layer

Recommended Posts

hi,  i have to admit very new to affinity pro,     i understand the basics of layers and masks but when it comes to creating and working with them my brain turns to mush,   is there an easy way to superimpose parts of one photo onto another ?    i made some macro photos a couple of years ago of soap bubbles,  they have a great psychedelic 60s/70s look,  i would like to make a transparent layer of parts of the bubbles over a photo of some other artwork i created,    easy way for dummies ?

Hi mick560,

I can think of a couple of ways to do this.  Depending on the effect you are after, a quick way would be to place the bubbles image over the top of the other image and then just adjust the opacity of the bubbles layer and you'll start seeing the layer underneath show up (as in attached screenshot)

The other method, would be to use a mask and set the brush opacity to anything other than 100% and start painting in Black.  This will start to reveal the picture underneath the bubbles, whilst making the bubbles transparent.

I'm sure if anyone else has any other methods they will post shortly

Hi mick560,

As per stokerg’s comments or did you mean using it as a full on an existing image like this?
