standard dimensions for new document?

are there standard dimensions for new documents? Just wondering if 8000x8000 is too large? Or does it depend on what you are creating? I thought that higher dimensions would equal higher resolution (or quality of image when exported)?

Depends what you are creating. Usually you just use the dimensions of original photo. Or you aim for printed size, for example 29,7 X 42 cm @300 dpi (3507 x 4960 px).
