TurboCooler Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 Illustrator has a tool called Live Trace that can convert a raster image into a vector one. Is there a similar option for Affinity Designer? Wonder if there is a way to accomplish this or if this a possible upcoming feature? 2989 1 Quote Affinity Designer 1.5.1.43 Windows 10 Pro, i7, 32gb RAM, MSI GTX 970 Using it for Board game design/enhancements, icon designs for software development, design of items to be cut on laser cutters.
Staff Lee D Posted January 4, 2018 Staff Posted January 4, 2018 Hi TurboCooler, Affinity Designer doesn't have an auto trace feature yet, it's something that our developers want to include in a future update. It's also one of the main feature requests we receive for Designer in the feature requested section. It will depend on the image, but have you tried placing the image on the canvas and then on a new layer using the Pen Tool to manually do the line work? Quote
Alfred Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 The auto-trace feature in Inkscape (free and open source) works quite well, but since Affinity Designer doesn’t currently have a ‘Simplify’ feature you may need to spend some time removing extra nodes manually. bleblans Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 +1 for auto trace I'm a bit surprised it is not included yet. Tormy and 2989 2 Quote

I purchased few day s ago Photo and Designer. Now for such thing, I have to reinstal Inkscape in order to get this done. It's apity that such package hs not yet implmented such useful feature. Yep, although I took this feature for granted, being Designer considered the competitor of AI. Quote System: Prod. Trljr Posted July 11, 2020 Posted July 11, 2020 I also searched for this feature in designer. I use it in my designs for clients particularly relating to landscapes and other organic forms that are often already captured in a rasterized form. I hope this feature is added to designer. Tormy 1 Quote
Seadog Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 I note that that these requests are more than two old and yet there is still no conversion tool in Aff Designer. When can we look forward to its definite inclusion? Tormy 1 Quote MacOS 10.14.5 – MBP – 16Gb DDR – 500Gb Crucial SSD Affinity Publisher (beta) Affinity Designer Affinity Photo

Right now I'd say it's more of an "if" rather than "when". Are they ignoring this feature, when it's requested by more sides? No, seriously. I really need it. I was constrained to re-install inkscape to do it. Quote System: Prod. v_kyr Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 Since ADesigner hasn't a build-in tracing tool and probably never will have, one has to take some third party tool for tracing here, like for example: Some desktop app tools potrace (Win/Mac/Linux, free) DragPotrace (a Mac only GUI frontend for potrace, free) autotrace (Win/Mac/Linux, free) Inkscape (Win/Mac/Linux, free) Intaglio Vectorize (Mac, free) MS Expression Design 4 (Win, free to use since longer times since discontinuous) Super Vectorizer (Mac, commercial) Image Vectorizer (Mac, commercial) Vector Magic (Win/Mac, commercial) ...and so on... Some online tracing tools: www.autotracer.org www.vectorizer.io www.vectorization.org www.photopea.org online-converting.com/autotrace/ online.rapidresizer.com/tracer.php ...and so on... Andrew72 Posted October 2, 2020 Posted October 2, 2020 It’s kind of like the feeling of trying to go to Linux after being dissatisfied with Windows, only to realize that when they boot the Linux up, they realize that it doesn’t detect the internal card to connect to the internet, so they have no internet access...
