Using the blemish removal tool for the first time to get rid of dust bunnies, I find that when you click on a spot, the corresponding circle that it takes it's healing image from is halfway across the image, almost every time. I have to zoom out, find it and drag it back, then zoom back in again.
You can see on the attached image I've shortened some of them, but look how long some of them are. And they aren't the longest I've had.
Can I ask why it goes so far across the image when healing data can be taken from right next to the spot, and is there any way to correct this behaviour?

All my automatic selections are take from a nearby area, so I don't see see the same thing, but why do you need to drag the selection spot back?  If the automatic result isn't good enough (mine is) you can just click on the blemish and then drag the replacement area to wherever you want to sample from - you don't need to go looking for it.

<edit>

I just tried a different image and got the same effect as you - still no problem with the results though!

As far as I can tell it looks to be working correctly. Every time you click on a spot the program will search your image for the best match from where to take the healing image from.  If this happens to be halfway across the image then that's what the algorithm decided is the best place for it.  You should not need to drag it back at any time.  Just let it do it's stuff.

There is also a Blemish Removal Tool in the Photo persona this one probably works the way most people are used to it working, the one in the develop persona works differently but it's still pretty cool.

I'm not using a quote!
The reason I am questioning it is that I have a several images which have many blemishes due to a damaged sensor. When I click on one, despite there being a perfect area around the blemish, it chooses a different area halfway across the image that also has a blemish in it. Blemish for blemish! It makes for very long and tedious work.

Note: I must preface this by saying I have almost no experience using the Blemish Removal Tool in the Develop Persona, & no sample RAW files with blemishes due to a damaged camera sensor to test with, so this could be of little or no help for you.

Anyway, as I understand it, if the automatic mode is not working for you, why not try the manual method mentioned in the Status Bar, as shown below?

Also, according to this help topic, you should be able to save presets for later use, so if the sensor defects always appear in the same places in the RAW image, then saving a preset (or possibly one for portrait & another for landscape shots) should save you a lot of time once you get it or them set up to give you acceptable results on representative shots.

I'd not even seen that R C-R, thanks for that. I had a look around and also found the blemish removal tool in Photo Persona. That tool is excellent and probably does 95% of what I want, although you have to click it multiple times for it to work.
