banding on gaussian blur

 i get a lot of banding when i add gaussian blur to a object.

might be a wrong setting, but i can't figure it out

Looks Ok on my screen here, smoothly flooting over and no obvious visable sharp banding.

Blur with solid color is not problem.

Fill with gradient:

I think Dutchshader's (OP) image is meant to be solid ?

I see what you're referring to, but without seeing the original and your gaussian blur parameters I can't begin to answer your question. Could you provide the original as a file, and the parameters of the blur?

i get this with gaussian blur 50px and outer glow 90 px, it is a little extreme example. dut i get the same banding with lower vallues.
