Exporting image with transparent background

Recommended Posts

EDIT: SALVATION!  So, I did flood selection tool > Select > Invert pixel selection.  Then > Selection Brish Tool > Refine > New Layer

I then exported the new layer.  result!

Hello, I'm having a devil of a time trying to export an image so that it has a transparent background.  The problem is that it continues to export with a white background.  I've tried

1. Starting new file, making sure "transparent background" is selected

2. Exported as PNG file with -> "Area: Selection without background" selected (this seems to give me no image)

The image that I'm working on is below.  I've used flood selection tool, then "invert pixel selection"

When I export though...as a PNG file it still has a white background

I've also tried

3. Duplicating layer to creating a mask

4. Creating a mask layer

I'm pretty new to Affinity.  I've watched Lynda.com videos youtube videos, nobody seems to be able to solve this porblem

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

You should just need to go File > Export and select PNG with Whole Document selected

Or do you mean the inside of the skull ?

The inside is white. You need to make it transparent.

An easy way is to go Filters > Colour > Erase White Paper

Windows PCs. Photo and Designer, latest non-beta versions.

Someone mentioned recently that in the current AP beta on Windows there's an issue exporting a PNG with transparency. I can't tell if you're using the beta or not from the screenshot you provided, but if you are then try the production version of AP., or (for the beta) in the File->Export dialog click More... and uncheck "Embed ICC profile" and see if that helps.

[Edit: It has been reported as a bug in the current beta for Windows, but not yet acknowledged by the Affinity team, probably due to the holidays. But it affects only the beta on Windows, not the released version. In the beta it is apparently it is no longer possible to export a .png or .gif file with transparency.]
