Isn’t there a less drastic solution to the problem, Jack? Having to ‘Select All’ means you lose things like custom macros which you may have put quite a bit of time and effort into setting up.

Yes, when you invoke the Clear User Data dialog, only the first three options are checked. Those three (or sometimes just the first one, 'Clear User Defaults') are often enough. If you 'Select All', you reset not only the macro library but also fills, brushes, styles, adjustments and a bunch of presets.
