Bonsoir.

Yeeessss!

MM..that's a good question....

I like all three applications...and I use them all extensively but it's depends what I am trying to achieve with my general workflow. (I have migrated pretty much away from Adobe over the last couple of years) and now for drawing in particular these 3 apps are my primary tools. (yiphee!):D

This year I actually managed to complete the Inktober 2017 challenge (just with a couple of hours to spare) with the creation of a mix of drawings in Sketchbook Pro/AD and AP. It was tending to take me longer to complete daily tasks [word prompts] in AD and unfortunately Inktober is very time restrictive. I used the beta version (1.6) a lot for the project....largely because of the new fantastic stabiliser tool for pen/pencil when I wanted to produce a vector 'sketch'.  which left me the options of; rasterize the line art (use the raster brushes) and/or have a vector version for enhancement later. However, Sketchbook has had this type of tool & line adjuster for some time. Used in combination with its mirroring capability it can be a powerful utility.

I just find sketching out, generating ideas, erasing, editing and line modifying etc.. (blue/red pencil ideas) much simpler in Sketchbook Pro. It's a bit more responsive with many additional drawing tools (rulers and guides),the ability (like Photoshop) to grab brushes off the screen where necessary (It's where my crazy Brush Library began!).

The obvious drawback of Sketchbook is that it is a bitmap editor but AD handles importing the PSD output (inc layers) really well. For a number of drawings I simply imported sketches to AD as working templates and re-created an initial vector based version.

While I appreciate the effort in converting these drawings into vectors, I think they lose something and I much prefer the originals in almost every case. I think it may be because the vectors lack a darkness to them while the originals have a nice contrast and that contrast appeals to me.

Juicy: the illustrative quality of the original is wonderful and I would gladly hang it on my wall as a piece of art.

Blind: This is another where there is something lost in the translation into vector and again I could have the original as a piece of art on my wall. :D

Interesting!

Thank you for your comments...It would always be difficult to directly compare two different illustrative mediums..Oddly for the 2017 Challenge I found the sketches to 'evolve' over the 31 days...tending to take on the appearance of pencil sketches like 'juicy' rather than 'ink'  with greater reliance on shading/lighter tone Also, the originals were mostly completed in Sketchbook Pro which has a 'smoother result' if that is the right word for sketching with the Wacom Pen. Resorting to a sketch was the only way I could complete the challenge and not all drawings would be suitable for re-working as vectors. The drawings for 2018 Challenge,  which unfortunately I haven't completed yet (6 to go)! were entirely done in AD. I tried to move away from the sketch appearance as it was not really the objective of the Inktober Challenge. These are much more detailed and 'darker'  I tried to mimic or get much closer to some original paper based ink drawings...using Isograph's rather than the sketch like appearance of 2017.

I am not sure I would agree concerning the vector conversions...I think it is just the nature of the medium. There is a tendency to create flat or 'glossy' images using vectors and I have been trying to get away from that and explore integrating texture into detailed vector objects...which can be quite time-consuming and can have mixed results. That said I really like the method shown recently on Affinity Spotlight for Christi du Toit here

Here are a couple of others I have not converted:)
