Searcher1851 Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Am on the 10 day trial of Affinity Designer, time running out. I can get an image inside a shape or text easily, but I need to know how to do the opposite. I want to reverse the text out of an image. The nearest way I have found is to stroke the text then make the text fill transparent. This leaves the image showing through, but I want the image "burnt out" by the text and thus it will appear white or checkerboard transparent. If someone can help me please or point me to a tutorial I would be grateful. Thank you. Quote
Alfred Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Place the text on top of the image and set its blend mode to 'Erase' (via the dropdown list in the Layers panel). Select both the text layer and the image layer and group them; the Erase blend mode will then be restricted to the group so that it doesn't affect lower layers whose colour you want to show through the transparent letters. If you want a stroke around the letters you will need a separate copy of the text layer, placed above the group with a transparent fill and with its blend mode set to 'Normal'.
