Kev Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 Having just purchased Affinity Designer I was hoping to be able to open and work on my company logo, which was originally worked on DrawPlus on an older computer that has now given up the ghost. I am disappointed that I cannot open this file nor any of my .Ppp files especially that I cannot re-install my DrawPlus nor PagePlus on this Windows 10 laptop. Is there any way that Affinity will be back-compatible to these .Dpp and .Ppp files? Quote
emmrecs01 Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 Hi, welcome to the Affinity forums. Unfortunately, and despite many appeals from users of the Serif legacy products, it has been made very clear that there are absolutely no plans to create any method to allow the direct import of any legacy DPP or PPP files to any of the Affinity range! Your only option is to export the original files from either DrawPlus or PagePlus as pdf files and then import them into AD or AP. However, you say, I cannot re-install my DrawPlus nor PagePlus on this Windows 10 laptop. Why do you say this? Unless you only have very old versions of the apps there should be no problem reinstalling them, even temporarily, on your computer in order to access the files you wish to transfer to AD. I've only very recently had to rebuild my Win 10 Pro computer and PPX9 and DPX5 both installed without problem. If you do have very old versions, and hence may not be able to install them, if the designs/files you need to access are vital to you it might even be worthwhile to purchase the latest and last version of PP and DP, about £20 each. Long-time user of Serif products, chiefly PagePlus and PhotoPlus, but also WebPlus, CraftArtistProfessional and DrawPlus. Delighted to be using Affinity Designer, Photo, and now Publisher, version 1 and now version 2. iPad Pro (12.9") (iOS 18.2) running Affinity Photo and Designer version 1 and all three version 2 apps.

FWIW, there are several reasons given for this, the most significant being the lack of feature parity between the Plus & Affinity apps. Because of this, some things would not import into the Affinity apps at all, while others might but only after some compatible feature or function was added to the Affinity line. They would have to be very, very old not to run at all. The oldest Serif software I currently have installed is PPX6, but before I had to reinstall the OS (Windows 10 Home) a few months ago, I had DPX4 and even DP7 (i.e. two versions before DPX2) working here. That's partly or largely a red herring excuse. Fact is there isn't feature parity with AI, PS, EPS or some other file types either. But they can be imported albeit with parts that AD and/or APhoto cannot interpret as bitmap. Quote
