evtonic3 Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 Is it possible to have text objects as symbols? Like if I type out display text and then make that a symbol? Subsequently I'd change it one time and then all copies of the symbols would update. Quote
Guest Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 Good evening, evtonic3, If I understand your question correctly, the answer is yes. Essai.wmv Quote
matisso Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 Confirmed. I used that quite recently when I was preparing multiple variants of a responsive website. So, enjoy. Cheers, Matt Quote
evtonic3 Posted December 6, 2017 Author Posted December 6, 2017 Thanks but can I edit an instance with a different color, and then resync it back to "main "symbol"? Quote
Guest Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 Yes, You can select an instance, click on "Detach" in the "Symbol" panel, apply a new color to it and create a new symbol with this instance. Quote
Mithferion Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 What I found is not possible (unless I did something wrong) is: Have a Text Object as a Symbol Select one instance of that Symbol and change the font Change the text and then see all instances change This would be useful to test some text with several fonts at once. If anyone know if it's possible, please let me know. Best regards! matisso Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 Oh, right.Yup, sadly, it looks like a bug. When you change colour of the text in a symbol instance (unchecking «Sync» toggle prior to that, of courses), the attributes that get unlinked are «Text, Text Frame», so it basically breaks most of synchronization except the size (even that works only when you resize the text using its bouding box – setting font size directly doesn't work, either).
