Once again I tested the work of lights and shadows. Details on the video.
If raw is good, then light and shadow work very well. Increasing the clarity no longer looks terrible.
At the end of the video, in the RAW module, almost HDR is sawed. Only HSL for the selected colors is missing.
Thanks to the developers for the work done! Keep it up!

It's been a year since i bought AP and the bug that is very unnoying to me (and actually prevents me from using AP completaly) haven't been fixed yet.

I am talking about some wacom tablets lags and strokes that are not a perfect curves. I am very disappointed, whole round year and all i see was one attemp to improve it with with a updated that was reverted. Not a word since then about any work toward fixing this problem.

Sadly, i must agree.

I have mentioned this bug numerous times and the connection in threading to the history tab (that makes matters worse).

I have forwarded these (and other) detailed problems to one of the moderators, but yet nothing has changed.

- lag with input devices with open history tab

- not working details slider with denoise filter

- anti aliasing problems with uneven zoom levels

The stabilizer is a mediocre workaround for the "edgy lines / curves", but solves not the core of the problem.

In the actual state, i can't switch from PS to a Affinity Pipeline. These problems are critical and should be adressed.

Have they acknowledged the bug? Are others having the same issue? Have you contacted support? Any chance it is something on your machine?

I am on a Windows 10 desktop so I am probably not much help. There are bugs that get reported and just sit there for some reason, unacknowledged. It really can make one wonder

Yes, the mod has acknowledged most of the bugs. No, i haven't contacted support. Do the Devs look into this forum?

The proability that my machine has problems is near zero because:

- I have these problems since release and installed windows two times.

- I have now a new pc with near zero applications on it, still these problems persist.

- The hardware shouldnt a problem: skylake 7820x with 32gigs of ram and a 1080ti.

I use mostly the pc for Photoshop, rendering with Blender (CUDA is nice), ZBrush and mediocre gaming.

I had high hopes to turn back from Adobe.

No the hardware should not be an issue unless there is a driver issue somewhere

Reinstalling Windows 10? Been there done that and have the t shirt.  The joys of being a Microsoft alpha tester (Yes I am referring to the so-called stable releases NOT the insider track)

If this behavior is happening in the release version of AP, contact support as they may have run into this. If it is just in the beta, then you are stuck with support from this forum

You MIGHT keep task manager open while you are trying to do some of these tasks to see if anything starts going crazy or dogging down the system

Good luck with it

Hi guys, while I sympathize, I really am confused here.

I am loooong time Wacom user Bamboo Touch 480. 6 year old Toshiba satellite Pro, Win 7 8 gb ram and and 1200 CPU... Yep 1200 built in GPU.!

6 years ago I spent Months trying to get the drivers working, I even used to reload the drivers EVERY TIME I switched my laptop on just to use my Wacom on PS CS6. Eventually it got sorted after months of various configuration, changes and tests.

(40 years IT expertise, too!) Bulletin boards then were full of issues with Wacom drivers, compatibility and conflicts...

In short my Wacom Bamboo works slickly and smoothly on PS AND Affinity Photo.... Although the initial betas were flaky.

While there may be some coding changes Affinity can receive I really am wondering how a crappy 6 year old underpowered laptop with win 7 and an old small Wacom works great and yours with beasts of machines do not?

When I had issues, as an IT specialist, I started from Safe mode and took driver by driver until it was sorted.

Perhaps such a bottom up approach may assist you?

Perhaps the Affinity guys could outline any other ideas other than conflicts, drivers, pen mode etc... that you can consider.

Cheers, Paul.

The problem is pretty sure a software / threading problem.

Because the lag is creatly reduced when you close the history tab. I have tested it on three systems.

And all have that problem (A Ryzen based AMD System with AMD Graphics, a Surface Pro 4 and my own PC).

If you have a Mouse with a high polling rate you can also observe this behaviour easily - history tab open, make fast curves -> no smooth lines / "edgy".

Close the history tab - problem greatly reduced. I think the app used the same Thread for undos and the event manager for input device listening.

If you use Affinity Photo only for light retouch, then you might dont notice this. But if you draw, expecially fast curves, like hair, then it is really annoying.

That would not be the first of that kind of issue.

It seems you have reproduced it elsewhere too. I cannot reproduce it here. I kept adding layers and brush painting them with no change whether the history window was showing or not. IF I am missing steps, please advise and I will try to reproduce it

Have you tried the infamous control start? It defaults to resetting 3 items but if that doesn't do it, reset everything and see if that helps. Things do go screwy in this program

1.) Create a new empty document

2.) Turn off stabilizer

3.) Then paint FAST curves (half circle). You will notice that in the beginning of the curve, they are not round, rather straight.

I have attached an example.

Btw.: anyone else have problems with strange anti aliasing at uneven zoom levels? I cant remember that in PS, GIMP, Corel or others :/

If you view that in image at 100%, you will see strange "ripples" in the lines. Nothing game breaking, but irritating interpolation.

I am not getting that effect but ... DISCLAIMER .. I can't draw for sh*t anyway nevermind doing it fast. You half circles were something for me to aspire to.

I hope someone jumps in here and tests it without my multi-thumb workflow issues

Hello Halo,
so completely I do not understand the problem
Well I'm not a graphic artist, for me are the drawn lines are OK,
or do you mean the smoothing of the lines?

see Screenshot.

Thanks for the response.

You must make that test with an active history tab and it must be in front.

The other problem is with the anti aliasing on the screen, on uneven zoom levels.

You can't see it every time - vary the zoom level a littel bit - but it's not my main concerns, only an information.

Iam on vacation in the next weeks and can't respond to any replies, but i hope that a developer will look into these problems in the next year.

Merry christmas to all. :)

Hey Halo

It is good someone else is also trying to get to Serif team with this problem. I kind of feel tired already of posting same thing and hear same respones over and over again.

From me again, I checked drivers, did clean install for diffrent versions, check other software's (in terms of possible conflicts), reinstall windows (8.1), nothing helped. Interesting thing is that my Wacom works fine in PS, Krita, Gimp, Sai, Black ink, Inkscape... it is ONLY Affinity Photo that has this problem. I believe there is a certain line of Wacom small tablets that has this problem in AP.

After all i could do on my PC i was pretty sure it is not anything wrong with it. As a last resort i installed my tablet on completaly different PC on win 7. All the softwares handled my wacom well on that PC expect AP, again. So after that i am pretty sure there is something wroing with AP and this certain line of Wacom tablets.

For me disabeling history tab dosen't change a thing. If it does, it is nearly impossible to catch.

Hi Chris,
That's good news, i hope that's not the only improvement.
I am looking forward to the new beta.

I would like to recall the problem with the Wacom tablet. The first time I reported it on June 9. The solution to the problem was not proposed.

I agree, I tested and confirm. By drawing slowly, the "corny" behaviour does not occur, only while making quick strokes. I tested the same in ClipStudio and SketchBook Pro. No such problems there. It's only in Affinity Photo and Designer.

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks for the new beta version. Now the brushes work much better, the stairs are gone and the productivity of the program has become much better when drawing. However, quickly calling the pipette on the alt still does not work well, sometimes it does not switch to the brush after removing the Alt key. Even when the atl is clamped, it would be nice if an icon of a pipette or a crosshair appeared instead of a brush, I like taping on the image to quickly take color and this would have made life much easier for me. I can also offer a good basic set of brushes for drawing:

Hi, Max. H! It's a strange thing, but I've come across a similar problem and understand you perfectly. Generally this problem appears randomly. Part of the problem can be solved if you include high-precision input from the tablet in the settings. Then the line will appear with a slight delay just equal to that gap when the stroke slows and draws a straight line. But then the heavier brushes will work much more slowly. I was helped to fix the problem by installing the program cleanly. I deleted it and using the program ccleaner cleaned unnecessary files and registry. After I re-installed the program and it helped me.
