AndreH Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 So I've been dragging and dropping files into Affinity Designer as part of my project, as some of the files I need are stock images. However, I do need to edit them from time to time, such as making name changes for the file or deleting the file. I cannot edit these files on the File Explorer (i.e. Move the file, edit the name, delete the file) because I always get the prompt that the file is in use and that I need to close Affinity Designer to make some changes. Is there some way where I am still able to not have to keep closing Affinity Designer to make changes to a file in file explorer? I did forget to mention I am using Windows OS (Thanks Jeff) Quote
emmrecs01 Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 Hi, welcome to the Affinity forums. I assume you are using Windows and not MacOS? If so,what you are experiencing is a feature of Windows, not AD. If you attempt to make any change in Explorer, Windows will "block" it because the file is open in an application and any attempt to "change" it is bound to lead to confusion, if not corruption. OTOH, if you are a Mac user and this is something that that OS normally allows, you will need to wait for another Mac user to comment, I think. For what it is worth, the Mac OS allows name changes in Finder for files open in Affinity Designer or Affinity Photo & the name change will be updated in the Affinity app. However, moving a file to the trash in Finder causes Affinity to pop up a notice that the file must close: Quote All 3 1.10.8, & all 3 V2.5.7 Mac apps; 2020 iMac 27"; 3.8GHz i7, Radeon Pro 5700, 32GB RAM; macOS 10.15.7 All 3 V2 apps for iPad; 6th Generation iPad 32 GB; Apple Pencil; iPadOS 15.7
