  1. Open an image in AD.
  2. Switch to Pixel Persona and select selection brush (W). Make sure 'Add' mode is on.
  3. Start brushing in a selection area.
  4. Then hold down the ALT-key and brush. That way it is possible to subtract from the selection area.

BUG (or feature?) : the brush preview shows a plus sign in it's middle even when in 'subtract mode'. IMO it should switch to a minus sign.

Also, wouldn't it be better to toggle the top left 'Add' and 'Subtract' buttons accordingly?

Have you got 'Always show brush crosshair' enabled in Preferences > UI? I think that's what the + symbol is coming from.

Hi Chris,

yes, indeed, that's the source of the plus sign which in fact is a crosshair :D

Then there is no indication at all in which mode one is working. At least not, when the ALT key is pressed to subtract from the selection.

I think that there is room for improvement in the future. But at least it is not a bug ;)

Thanks for clearing that. Cheers,
