Thoxton Posted November 26, 2017 Posted November 26, 2017 Hi I’m not sure if I’m explaining this correctly, basically I design cards and would like to fill outline images of say champagne glasses or a house shape with a picture or wallpaper pattern. I can fill text with an image but when I have tried it with a clip art image it doesn’t work. Can anyone give me some guidance? Many thanks 2989 1 Quote
DianeF Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 Is this what you're trying to do? If so, here's how I did it: 1. Using the pen tool, I created a shape. It shows up as a curve in its own layer 2. Using the Place command, I brought in a poster image that I had. It was a rectangular image. When I brought it in it was in its own layer above the curve shape. 3. I dragged the poster image over the curve shape layer (not over the mask icron ono the layer), and what I got is what you see in the screen shot. Essentially the poster image was clipped to fit the shape of the curve. The same process works if you create your first image using one of the shape tools in the left menu bar. Just be sure to drag your image over the words in the layer rather than over the mask icon. Thoxton Posted November 28, 2017 Author Posted November 28, 2017 Thank you Diane yes that’s it .. but the problem I’m having is if I import an image that has already been drawn .. the shape of the image imports with the suround and when I go to fill in the image it just fill in a rectangle not the outline of the image. Do I need to remove the area around the image I’m trying to fill? If so how do I do that? Thank you Quote
v_kyr Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 See Clipping vs Masking here, works in AD too that way. Quote ☛ Affinity Designer 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Photo 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Publisher 1.10.8 ◆ OSX El Capitan ☛ Affinity V2.3 apps ◆ MacOS Sonoma 14.2 ◆ iPad OS 17.2
DianeF Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 What you need to do is to use one of the Selection Tools to remove the image from the background. The selection brush tool is a good one to use. You can watch some of the tutorials for how to use this brush. Once you select your image, go to Layer, Invert. Doing this will select the background instead of the image. Then press the Delete key. This will delete the background. Then you can follow the steps in my first email. Also look at v_kyr's suggestion to learn about masking vs. clipping. Quote Affinity Photo, V 2.5.3 Affinity Designer, V 5.3 Affinity Publisher, V 5.3 Mac Book Air, Sonoma, 14.5
