Small picture and unsharp mask (Photo

Recommended Posts

I have a few relative small pictures (900 x 602 px) resized in Affinity Photo (original files are big - about 10 Mpix). After sharpening by Unsharp Mask (radius 1 px, factor 0,5) and exporting to jpeg I get a thin fine line at the bottom of each picture. For large images, the problem is not visible (not present?). I suspect this problem only affects images previously resized down in Photo editor, then sharpened and exported to jpeg (or other format).

I perform the following actions:

  1. Resize Document (1.jpg)
  2. Live Unsharp Mask (2.jpg)
  3. Export Settings - Export (3.jpg)
  4. The result image (4 - IMGP6539_DxO.jpg)

If you open "4 - IMGP6539_DxO.jpg" on a dark background, you will see a thin bright line (1px) at the bottom.

Hi komtur

Thanks for the screenshots. You resized you image to have half a pixel. exported images have to contain full pixels only it can have half pixel dimensions so the thin line you are seeing is the extra half pixel added to round up to a whole pixel. As you are exporting as jpg, it does not support transparency so it is a white matte.
