opening multiple photos on the same screen

Recommended Posts

Hello I am very interested in Affinity. I currently am using PS CS3 with Bridge on windows Vista 32bit. It works very well. I bought a new computer windows 10 64bit and of course none of the old programs I have work anymore. I refuse to pay Adobe a monthly fee for PS as I am a hobbyist. The main things that concern me with Affinity are these, I will list my questions

1. Is there any way to have multiple photos or documents open on the same screen and simply click and work on them. The biggest fault with Affinity for me is the ability to work on multiple photos and cut, paste and drag elements from one photo to another quickly . This is very easy to do in PS. Anything you capture with a tool such as the magnet tool you can simply drag from one photo to another and it simply appears as a new layer where ever you dragged it to. Multiple photos or documents can be presented in any arraignment across your PS workspace to be compared side by side. No saving as PNG files in one photo and reopened again in another photo  every time you want to see them or use them. I have 3D Graphics soft wear where you can load hundreds of different props and characters in the same scene within the same workspace. It seems to me that it should not be that difficult to design a photo program where you can work on multiple items within the same screen window. I also have Bridge and in Bridge all my PS documents (.psd) appear as thumbnails making it very quick to open documents by sight instead of trying to remember what every document was.

2. How do you load additional text fonts to Affinity ?

3. Does Affinity have plans to include a program like Adobe Bridge that can tie other Affinity programs to Affinity photo and have all you documents appear in one central location with thumbnails of your projects. This question may explain why you can't work on multiple documents side by side and why no Affinity or PS documents have any thumbnails attached to them .

All in All I think Affinity is a very nice photo program. It does not have all the filters, features and whistles and bells of PS. But playing around with for a couple of hours it was not hard to use very similar to PS. There is nothing else out there I don't think that is this close to PS, certainly not GIMP. If it could do all of the things I mentioned like multiple documents within the same workspace I would be willing to pay twice as much for it.

anyone have any thoughts on this ?  Thanks

1. Just open each document & they should appear in their own workspace window. Is this not happening for you?

2. Affinity uses whatever fonts are installed on your system. It does not include any fonts of its own.

3. There are plans to add a DAM app eventually, but not anytime soon.

1. On Windows you probably see a workspace with one photo visible at a time, and a tab bar that you can click on to switch between them. If you need to have multiple photos visible at the same time, you can drag them to undock them from the workspace and give them their own window. That will make it possible to drag something from one photo to another. [Edit: To undock, click on the photo's tab in the workspace, then drag it. You can also redock a photo by dragging it to that tab bar.]

The is a 'New From Clipboard' option (on the File menu) which should help you do what you want.
