“Marching ants” deselection on iPad

Recommended Posts

Hello all...

I am trying out the iPad version of Photo and really loving it. I have all the photoshop shortcuts down from years of use and spending some time figuring out the transitions needed.

Prblem I am having is in two ares...

1 - When I make a selection in the selection persona and make my adjustments in the photo persona I can’t find the way to then deselect the marching ants! Why is there not (unless I am just missing it) a “deselect” or “hide” command?

2 - Why can’t I just paint a mask to do my adjustments with? One would think having a paintbrush to quickly paint over an area to do burn/dodge or the like would be a no brainer. THis is the only reason I use photoshop fix, it is soooooo simple to make these adjustments. Again, I may just be missing it so please help me out.

Thanks!

Bruce

Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, Bruce. :)

1 -  As far as I'm aware, you can only deselect while in the Selection Persona. The option is on the 'three dots' menu.

2 - When you add an adjustment layer, a mask is automatically added at the same time. Choose the Paint Brush Tool and paint in black, white or grey, just as you would normally do.

Bruce, when you are on the layer with the marching ants do a two finger tap and deselect is one of the choices that appears.

Thanks for the tip. (BTW, I don't think the marching ants are ever tied to a particular layer.)

Thank You all for the advice! Found it and started using it.

Would be cool to have the same select X icon in the lower left as in Designer 😇

I asked for this a few days ago, no reason why same icons from designer including the snap magnet couldn’t be there.

This is one of the most frustrating things about Photo.

Having to tap back to the select persona in order to deselect. Two actions instead of one for no good reason I can see. Really hope they implement it.

Words are crude implements, difficult to get perfect, easy to get tied in knots with, and often - usually - misunderstood, which is why 'tolarence' is the best word of all.

The word "professional" fits us all - amateur, semi-pro, beginner, advanced, middle, beyond it all, and on....., because professionals are tolerant.

You no longer need to do that, a single long press on the screen with your finger brings up a context menu with DESELECT as an option.

You can already do this directly with the dodge and or burn tool (brush). Just select the tool and paint on the layer. No brainer 😁

If you want to do it non destructively just add a pixel layer, fill with 50% grey, set layer blend mode to overlay then dodge and burn on that pixel layer.

Sorry for the length of this video but I hope this may help you as well.  All of the adjustment have their own mask.  If you want to affect only a portion of your image you can invert the adjustment as shown in the video (make sure to activate it) then paint in with a white brush the area you want affected.  Notice you can toggle the mask to see it.
Hope this makes sense.
