badjohn
I am new to Affinity and mostly I am pleased with it but I have just hit an issue. I am processing a set of high key model images. So, there is a model and a plain white bright background. In Affinity, I have used a white balance adjustment layer to ensure that the background is a true white. It looks correct in Affinity itself and also when the image is opened in Windows picture viewer but when uploaded to the web, it seems to have a slight pink colour cast. Do I have a problem in the export (using a batch job)? What else might be the explanation?
Staff stokerg Posted November 15, 2017 Staff Share Posted November 15, 2017 Hi Badjohn, Could you share the exported file and also a link to it on the web and also how are you uploading it to the internet? If it's by a 3rd party service such as Wordpress or another online builder it's possible that could be doing some resampling on the image and causing the issue. You can upload samples to our private DropBox link here and all images will be deleted once the issue has been looked at.
Staff MEB Posted November 15, 2017 Staff Share Posted November 15, 2017 Hi badjohn, Welcome to Affinity Forums Which colour profile are you using? Ideally you should use/export to sRGB if you are working for web as it's the profile browsers support by default. badjohn
Where do I check the colour profile? I see the problem in my own website and one that I upload to. In the case of my website, the images are placed directly on the server without change and served up by Apache HTTP server. The images are what are called "Not safe for work". Is that a problem? Staff MEB Posted November 15, 2017 Staff Share Posted November 15, 2017 Check the top left of the interface with the image open (see screenshot below). Unless you change or remove it on the Export dialog (clicking the More button, ICC profile dropdown and respective check box below) or convert the document to another profile, that will be the one used when you export the file. badjohn
Thanks. I see nearly the same. Different image dimensions. RGBA/16 - sRGB61996-2.1. Different camera details. Is this is the most apporpriate setting for web images? Maybe it is just that my monitor or eyes needs calibration
badjohn
I am still struggling. Part of the issue is that in Affinity, the image is displayed against a dark grey background which makes it hard to judge whether it is a true white. In the websites, it is displayed against a white background which makes any deviation from white obvious. Another issue is that the Picker in the white balance dialog does not set the tint. I have had to play with that manually to try to correct the white. I now have the image almost correct when it is full size but the scaled images (e.g. 900px and 400px) still appear wrong. All the sizes (full res, 900, and 400) are created by a batch job conversion. The only difference in the settings is the size (W and H columns in batch job). There is a difference in how the web site serves the images. The smaller ones are in an HTML page using <img srv=".... For the full resolution, the server simply returns the jpg (not embedded in HTML). So, this might be causing the difference. However, again, there is the factor that the background is black in this case. So, maybe the image is wrong in all locations but I only notice when it is against white background.
