How to enable auto-scroll?

Recommended Posts

The Help manual in Affinity Designer says there's an auto scroll function. Right now if I click an object it highlights but it doesn't scroll to it. If there's a way to enable it the help document seems completely wrong in detailing how this works. The icon in the help manual doesn't exist. How do you enable this auto-scroll function?

This topic may help. Basically, the help topic is wrong about the name & where to find it. Apart from that, it is perfect. :o

The names and location are correct but currently this menu button is only available on the Mac version (was introduced in v1.6).

I just noticed the addition on the Layers panel menu, so I stand corrected on that ... but that makes me wonder what the function of the "Auto-scroll to show selection in Layers panel" item in preferences > User Interface is supposed to do. It apparently does nothing.

It does exactly the same thing as the option in the Preferences panel. It scrolls the Layers panel automatically to the selected object on canvas. You need to have the Layers panel full of objects/layers to see it scrolling otherwise it just highlights the layer.

That is not happening for me: whether the box is checked or not makes no difference. Only if "Auto-scroll" in the new menu is checked does the Layers panel auto-scroll.

I just checked this with a file that has 128 "Layer" layers. If "Auto-scroll" in the new menu is enabled, scrolling occurs regardless of the preference setting. If it is not enabled, no scrolling occurs regardless of the preference setting.

There must be something wrong then. I will have to check it out.

Thanks for the quick reply. Please do post back here if you cannot duplicate this, but that can wait until next week. I hope you & the other staff will take at least part of the rest of the weekend off -- you certainly deserve that after all the time you have put into answering the torrent of questions since the 1.6 retail updates went live!

I don't know if it matters but the 128 layer file I used as a text came from https://www.smashingmagazine.com/2013/11/freebie-nice-things-icon-set-png-ai-source/. It is a complex ai format file that opens perfectly well in Affinity Designer or Affinity Photo.
