CreateDirectory Failed on Photo/Designer Update

Recommended Posts

I am running Photo & Designer on Windows 10 and am trying to update to 1.6. I have downloaded Exec files as prompted but on clicking I get 'Exception: CreateDirectory Failed'. I uninstalled Designer and tried fresh download but the same. Can anyone help?

Tried that, and it didn't work - same error message.

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

I see you have an older version (1.6.5) of the installer, too. Do you have an older Affinity Photo currently installed and running? If so, what release number is currently installed?

Or have you tried to remove it already?

If you have the earlier version installed, what is the directory path to your existing version of Affinity Photo?

I deleted everything, installation is not possible.

You probably should not have done that.

At this point, my suggestion would be to try the Microsoft Uninstall Troubleshooter: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/fix-problems-that-block-programs-from-being-installed-or-removed-cca7d1b6-65a9-3d98-426b-e9f927e1eb4d

It might also be worthwhile to find your Setup log files and show them to us: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/98922-faq-installer-errors-setup-failed-installer-windows-ui-issues/&do=findComment&comment=541687

But also, what version of Windows are you running. The output from the winver command and from Windows Settings, About, would help.
