Problems with PDF

Hi,

I have some problems working with PDFs.

1. Designer opens the PDF correctly, but when exporting it to PDF again, cuts some pictures partially.

2. It offers me to replace the fonts even they exist and are installed in my computer.

3. Why pages in Layers panel are sorted from last to first instead from first to last?

Hi,

I first tried with default settings and after that with unchecked "Allow JPEG compression".

Here is the original file. Two of the pictures are on pages 17 and 20. I didn't check after that if there are any more.

I would also like to add:

4. Opening PDF with plenty of pages is extremly slow. For example, the file I sent to you is part of a 480 pages file. If I try to open it a whole, it takes minutes to open and there are no indicators what is happening -- is AD loading the file or it is stucked.

5. Please, offer us to open a page range beside complete PDF or one page only.

It may be different on a PC but on a Mac "Loading <name of file> 1 document" appears in the window title until the file loads.

I am Copy/Pasting a Word text into PDF opened in AD and look what I got. Instead of Macedonian text, a Japanese(?) text appeared. I am sending you the Word file. You will manage it easily because the text is both in English and Macedonian paralel.

It appears that the text is in English & Japanese -- not too surprising for a Japanese car & motorcycle company.

You didn't read my post carefully. The manual is in English and I have to replace with Macedonian text. So, there is no Japanese text at all. BUT... when I Copy/Paste the MK text over the UK one, Japanese text appears.

I read your post as carefully as I could but it is not clear from it if yre you talking about translating the text or just a font substitution?

Just a text substitution with Copy/Paste from Word to PDF. There is a Word document attached to that post, so you can see it.

I don't have Word installed on my Mac & the apps that I have that can open .doc files do not necessarily open them as they would appear in Word.

It is organized as a 2 columns table. 1st column has the English text, the 2nd one -- Macedonian text. I think you can open it with Libre Office (or similar) without any problems.

For whatever reason the file would not open with my copy of Libre Office, & produced a "some errors occurred" message when opening it with Nisus Writer Pro using the default conversion method based on Libre Office. However, Nisus offered to use a different converter to open the file & that produced a two column output with English text on the left & what I assume to be the Macedonian language version on the right -- no sign of any Japanese characters.

 

I don't know if or how that might have anything to do with your problems working with PDFs in Affinity Designer, but it suggests there might be something specific to some Word files exported (?) to PDF that some other apps do not handle gracefully.

Yes, no Japanese characters at all, but when I Copy/Paste MK text from Word to PDF file opened in AD, Japanese text shows mysteriously all of a sudden.

So, this is the problem because I want to do my job in AD.

In Affinity Designer, what font is shown for the text block you selected in your screenshot? Is it shown as a missing font or an installed one?

 

I have no idea if this is relevant; just searching for clues....

Arial Regular. I have all Arial fonts installed and AD still reports they are missing and suggest to replace with narrow version. Even if I click to substitute the "missing" fonts with narrow ones, it does not substitute them.

BTW, I don't think it is font problem, but some kind of language problem.

That (sort of) suggests a font issue on your system with AD. I assume you have already tried restarting your PC (which sometimes helps when AD is "confused" about which fonts are installed), but maybe trying the AD preferences > Miscellaneous > Reset Fonts button would fix (or at least change) this behavior.

As far as I know, the only language related features AD supports are those relating to unit formats & the language used in the UI & help topics, & the former only through whatever the OS provides for that. It can't translate any text in a document from one language to another, so it seems dubious that language is somehow involved in this.

There is no need of Arial Cyr because MK characters are already implemented in Arial.

@Arun Sarkar for me there is no difference between retail and beta version. Same problem.
