liquidquick
'lo, are there any comprehensive help files or user manuals for designer/photo that explain the various tools, options, workflow routines, etc? i work in a prepress environment, and i'm trying to determine if migrating from adobe products to affinity is a viable option... the problem i'm running into is that many of the things i do in order to set up customer files don't quite map over from illustrator and photoshop. i'm sure there are ways to do them; i'm just not familiar enough with the programs to make them work, hence the need for some good documentation. thanks, -lq
Staff MEB Posted February 10, 2015 Staff Share Posted February 10, 2015 Hello liquidquick, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) Both applications are quite recent (Affinity Photo is in its first Beta) and as such the documentation is still a little scarce, but there's already some resources you can take a look: - check out the Help and sample files available on both programs; - we also have some video tutorials covering several tools/panels on our Vimeo/Youtube channels; - Affinity Review #1 (our ezine) includes a detailed article about the Pen Tool plus a detailed tutorial on how to create an illustration from scratch. - I've compiled a small list for these and other third party resources here. We are working on more documentation and tutorials as we speak. Hope this helps you get started. liquidquick
but there's already some resources you can take a look: yes, those links are actually very helpful... the shortcut list alone answered quite a few of my 'how the heck do i...' questions. is there anyone else out there, looking to incorporate designer (and eventually photo) into a print production environment? i'll be doing some experimenting to see how they work with my cutting equipment, and various machinery; it would be nice to know if there are others with similar workflows to share info with. -lq
abra100pro
I really like the app(s) at first glance. I wished for years to have an adobe alernative. Being a professional Photoshop user I gained really deep skills and there is hardly a shortcut I don't know. IMHO: I'm among many Photoshop Pros - If you want to win us it would be a very good idea to have the same shortcuts as far as it goes. Tasks like: option+backspace and cmd+backspace for filling an element/selection with forgroudn/background-colour cmd+click on a layer o select it cmd+click onto new layer icon to make a new layer underneath the active one option+draw to draw from center (instead of cmd as in affinity products) ... are not only convenient - they're the real MVP, they're lifesavers, holidaymakers Please consider approaching them (also in Affinity designer vs. Illustrator) - you might want to consider a preference-setting: "use Photoshop shortcuts and keystrokes". I am sure you are going to gain much more people that way. Kind regards and thanks. Pierrick, kesmeby and deeds
abra100pro
forgot: right-click to adjust brush size and softness in one-go. of course there are many more.
kesmeby
option+backspace and cmd+backspace for filling an element/selection with forgroudn/background-colour This one, or any key combo to fill foreground/background would be helpful. Pierrick
Agree. The current Shift+F5 is awkward, and do not allow Preserve transparency. A default mapping to Option+backspace and Option+Shift+Backspace would be a neat addition!
