Can not download the extras / bonus material

Recommended Posts

Similar for me.  I created an account, then logged in thru that- didn't take too long.  You can download from the app-   if you don't have that Welcome Screen enabled, you can access it from Help->Welcome (IIRC) and then access bonuses from that screen

Hi toyotadesigner,

The Affinity Store only sells the Windows versions of our apps and the Affinity Designer Workbook, so most Mac users don't have an account there since they got the apps from the Mac App Store.

So in your case, you must create an account/complete the "order" in the Affinity Store to be able to download the extras (unless you have bought the Affinity Designer Workbook there - in that case you already have an account - just use your credentials to login and access the goodies.

Also it’s worth being aware that a ‘forum’ account is different to a ‘store’ account and therefore that can cause a misunderstanding at login for those freebies. I spent ages approaching the store login from different directions mistakenly believing there was an error, user or online. In the end I created a new account and all went well.

I always wonder why procedures like this must be so complicated...

I think it is because the bonus stuff is being offered for free for only a short time, & most (all?) of it is owned by third parties rather than by Serif/Affinity. Understandably, the owners do not want their work to be free to anyone or beyond the offer period.

Could be improved a lot with a short explanation <sigh>

Indeed. To begin with, the email notification could have included at least a short explanation about the link for the extras being on the Welcome screen, & either there or on the Store order page that "New User" means "New Affinity Store User."

I think just those two things probably would have reduced by half the number of posts about this & the workload on the staff, who have been doing a great job of providing the missing info as quickly as they can.

Hopefully, this will be a learning experience for whoever is in charge of the Store & email notifications so if something like this offer is repeated in the future, there will be far fewer posts for them to deal with.

But it did!  See this screenshot of the relevant section of the email.  I assume all registered user received the same announcement?

Sure we all received the same e-mail. However, neither the mail nor the web site explained anything, you had just to sign/log in with your user name, which didn't specify if it must be your name of the forum or a name when you purchased the app. But this is misleading, because purchasing for Mac users means purchasing through Apples App store. I even tried my App store credentials, which of course didn't work at the Affinity site.

Shit happens.

So it does. I stand corrected on that part, although perhaps it could have been made a bit more obvious. As it is, it appears below the two sentences about getting the update instead of grouped with the other info about the freebies, so it was (at least for me) easy to overlook that one sentence.
