On a Mac, it is possible to open (launch) the app using the Terminal command open /Applications/Affinity\ Photo.app, but there does not seem to be any way to pass  any files to it. I suspect the same is true for Windows.

Hi R C-R, I tried using the command open /Applications/Affinity\ Photo.app, seems like it no longer works. I've also tried several variations of it with no success. Have you by any chance discovered the latest way to open an Affinity application via the Terminal? My OS is Sonoma 14.4 if that makes a difference.

Thanks! Appreciate your time and response🤠!

Hi @NagasonicTeenageWarhead,

You need to ensure the name element of the Command Line prompt matches the name of the app as it appears in the Finder, e.g.,

open /Applications/Affinity\ Photo\ Beta.app

open /Applications/Affinity\ Photo\ 1.10.6.app

open /Applications/Affinity\ Photo\ 2.4.0.app

Affinity Designer 2.4.2 | Affinity Photo 2.4.2 | Affinity Publisher 2.4.2
Affinity Designer  Beta 2.5.0 (2402) | Affinity Photo Beta 2.5.0 (2402) | Affinity Publisher Beta 2.5.0 (2402)

Affinity Designer 1.7.3 | Affinity Photo 1.7.3 | Affinity Publisher 1.10.8
MacBook Pro 16GB, macOS Monterey 12.7.4, Magic Mouse

At least on my Mac running Catalina in Finder the names do not include the minor version numbers, so instead of open /Applications/Affinity\ Photo\ 2.4.0.app the command would be open /Applications/Affinity\ Photo\ 2.app.

A simple way to see what is required is to open a Terminal window, type the word "open" followed by a space, & then from the Finder Applications window drag the app into the Terminal window. You can press return to open the app.

I've numerous versions of each app on my Mac which I've renamed to avoid confusion when I have the various versions open side by side for testing purposes so just making the case that to open the appropriate version the name needs to match the name as it appears in the Finder...
