Affinity Designer really isn't the right software for documents with more than a handful of pages, since it lack pagination features and linked text frames. Affinity Publisher, when it eventually arrives, should be able to do these basic things, but it hasn't even been released to public beta yet.

Try using Serif Page Plus. It isn't InDesign, but it might do for your book. Note this is now a legacy program meaning that, whilst there is support, there will be no future updates.

Windows 10, Affinity Photo 1.10.5 Designer 1.10.5 and Publisher 1.10.5 (mainly Photo), now ex-Adobe CC

CPU: AMD A6-3670. RAM: 16 GB DDR3 @ 666MHz, Graphics: 2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GT 630

PagePlus is a good option, but it's only available for Windows.

There are native Mac applications with perpetual licenses also available. QuarkXPress, which has a deal that expires soon, and Viva Designer. VivaD is a scaled back alternative compared to QXP/ID, but I do have a client in Germany that uses it so I need to as well. A bit over half of my client work is in QXP, the remainder is ID. But expect to spend more money.

Serif won't likely be giving PP users a discount. They could opt to, but at the current price of PP it seems doubtful to me. Add to that, APub isn't likely to be an expensive option, either.

Another solution, predestined for larger book authoring and publishing, is FrameMaker!

☛ Affinity V2.3 apps ◆ MacOS Sonoma 14.2 ◆ iPad OS 17.2
