Hofmanfoto
Hello, On my computer affinity photo works slowly, using almost 80% of the processor and 1 - 1,5 GB ram...its noticeably slowing down the computer and overall editing proces. Ive got Intel Pentium 2.4 GHz with 2 cores and 4 GB of RAM memory and 240 GB SSD. It also loads RAW photo files very slowly. It takes almost 30 seconds to open program and load 1 photo. Max usage set to 2048 mb in program because I thought it might help, but it didn't. Anyone knows how to solve this problem? Should I buy a new computer? I thought it was ok when I watched requirements for hardware. The app even crashed sometimes. Ive got TRIALversion of the app. Want to buy it but after experiencing those problems I'm not sure. Can anyone help me? Thanks
emmrecs01
Hi, welcome to the Affinity forums. A computer running an Intel Pentium Dual Core CPU at 2.4GHz, with only 4 GB RAM and a 64 bit operating system is very much at the very low end of what is needed to run modern software like the Affinity range, IMO. There has been much comment and debate in these forums about the time taken to open Affinity Photo and particularly, to open RAW files. I honestly don't think the spec of your current computer is really sufficient to allow you to benefit from the many features of Affinity Photo. What other software do you run on this same machine? Do you see similarly "slow" opening and processing times? Hofmanfoto
Hello, I'm using Zoner Photo Studio 17 Pro and Adobe Photoshop CS2, and both programs are running well. I cant upgrade my PC because I'm waiting for Canon 7D mk III to come out and buy it (I hope it will come out, some rumors say it will be in summer 2018) - my 1200D isn't enough for professional work. So I cant afford to buy a new PC now. I am currently looking for the software that can replace my old version of Photoshop. Thanks for help
Staff MEB Posted October 27, 2017 Staff Share Posted October 27, 2017 Hi Hofmanfoto, Welcome to Affinity Forums I'm afraid @emmrecs01 is right. A two core processor with 4Gb of RAM may not be enough to take much advantage over the software you are already using when running Affinity Photo. I think it's preferable to keep using Photoshop CS2. If you are having performance issues with the Affinity Photo trial, the retail version will not change/improve anything here. Littletank
Would it help to add another 4Gb of RAM?
emmrecs01
@Littletank I suspect the difference between 4GB and 8GB RAM would be barely noticeable for @Hofmanfoto. The real "slowdown" for his/her computer is the age, capacity and speed of the CPU. As @MEB, I think, infers, Photoshop CS2, at least, is now very "old" software, designed to run on machines of a much lower spec than are currently common. Hence, his advice to continue using it. Hofmanfoto
Thanks really for help! I think I will stick with my photoshop for now. So which hardware is OK to run the program well - if I will buy a new PC in the next years I would like to know which hardware to look for? CRWillow
I'm having a terrible time with AP. I did all the checks before purchasing it, my PC is like Hofmanfoto and the download site said it would be okay but obviously that wasn't true. It can't use at all without it freezing up or just shutting down without notice. It stops any other program every task manager from responding too. And several times it crashes my computer completely. The fact that the answer to every problem when it comes to electronics is "buy an new one", is ludicrous. My internet company says Windows is too much of a glutton so I need to buy more speed, Microsoft says that my programs need to be replaces because of it's updates make them obsolete, now Affinity needs a new computer? One day the whole world will be one huge landfill. I'm sorry, but I'm seriously disappointed that wasting money on a new item that will be obsolete before its unpacked is always the go to answer for software and electronic companies. Not everyone is rich enough or just plain foolish enough to buy something just because a new one came out. But the world is full of "gotta have it" people I suppose. Again Sorry but I'm just so frustrated with a program I thought could replace my CS2 software. I'm glad now i didn't order this for my nieces.
