SVG File open error - The fie could not be parsed

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have generated an SVG file using a Blender add-on, which is scripted in Python.

When I try to open the file in Affinity Designer 1.5.3.69 I get the following error:

"Failed to open file"

"The file could not be parsed."

The file opens fine in the latest Google Chrome and Adobe Illustrator CS6

I found a solution to fix the error:

Change the line:

<?xml version='1.0' encoding='ascii'?>

to:

<?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?>

This issue is the same as the one reported on the "Bugs on Mac" forum:

Here is a sample file:

0001.svg

Thanks,

Dave

I'm just wondering if there has been any update on this. I encountered the same problem trying to import SVG Freestyle line art from Blender and after a bit of Googling eventually came across this post. BTW the fix above still works but the number of exports/imports I had to do made it a little tedious.  It was an easier task to modify the the Freestyle export addon to set the encoding to utf-8 by default. This strikes me as an easy fix to the AD importer so I'm not sure why this wasn't resolved by now. Is there something more difficult about ASCII encoded SVG files that I'm missing? It is not a problem for me moving forward but a more informative error message would certainly help here.
