Jon1
I'm trying to remove something from a picture , and tried Inpainting Brush Tool. It worked fine , but not 100% happy with the result , so then tried the Healing Brush Tool.Result was ok , but when going back to the Inpainting Brush Tool it would not work at all. Returned to the Healing Brush Tool with same problem. After restarting Affinity Photo everything worked fine again. This has happend to me several times. Obviously I'm doing something wrong , but I can't figure out what ?
Staff MEB Posted October 24, 2017 Staff Share Posted October 24, 2017 Hi Jon1, Welcome to Affinity Forums Are you sure you haven't accidentally deselected the image/layer? The layer must be selected (highlighted in the Layers panel) otherwise the tools don't work. What OS are you using? macOS or Windows? Staff MEB Posted October 24, 2017 Staff Share Posted October 24, 2017 Hi Jon1, In that screenshot the layer is not selected, so the tools will NOT work. Click on it in the Layers panel (or over the image on canvas) and it should get highlighted. Then you can use the Inpainting Brush Tool (or any other tool). Staff MEB Posted October 24, 2017 Staff Share Posted October 24, 2017 Yes, that's how it should look when the layer/object is selected. You're welcome. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software | Affinity Quick Reference
R C-R
Hi @Jon1 I noticed that in both your screenshots, your Background layer is locked (indicated by the lock icon in the Layers panel). This means you cannot select it by clicking on it in the canvas, although of course you can by clicking on it in the Layers panel. To unlock the layer, click on the lock icon in the Layers panel. The layer probably was locked because this is the default, but if you want you can change that in the Preferences: Jon1 1 Quote All 3 1.10.8, & all 3 V2.4.1 Mac apps; 2020 iMac 27"; 3.8GHz i7, Radeon Pro 5700, 32GB RAM; macOS 10.15.7 Affinity Photo 1.10.8; Affinity Designer 1.108; & all 3 V2 apps for iPad; 6th Generation iPad 32 GB; Apple Pencil; iPadOS 15.

Thanks , I unlocked it in the Preferences. I know how to click on it in the Layers Panels , but how am I doing it in the canvas ? Staff MEB Posted October 24, 2017 Staff Share Posted October 24, 2017 You can only lock/unlock layers through the Layers panel: click on the padlock icon in front of the layer to unlock it; to lock a layer, select it and click the padlock icon on the top right of the Layers panel. It's not possible to lock/unlock a layer on canvas. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software | Affinity Quick Reference
