Affinity Photo Customer Beta (1.6.6 - Beta 7)

Recommended Posts

  • Staff

Status: Beta Release

Purpose: New features, fixes

Requirements: Purchased Affinity Photo

Mac App Store: Not Submitted

Download: Here

This is the seventh beta of a substantial change to our codebase and as much as we have tried to ensure the quality of the code, it should be considered to be not suitable for production use. This means that you should not attempt to use it for commercial purposes or for any other activity that may be adversely affected by the application failing. In addition it is definitely worth noting that files created in Affinity 1.6 may not open in 1.5 so always make a copy of your important documents before opening them in 1.6 to ensure you do not accidentally overwrite them and are unable to open them in your 1.5 version.

To use this beta, simply download the file from the link given above and double-click on the file to open the installer. Follow the instructions to install the beta version. The beta sits alongside the Mac App Store version and will not interfere with it.

Thanks,

Affinity Photo Team

The new light interface is starting to look very nice. I noticed that you darkened and consolidated the background greys of the overall interface framework in relation to the last version (or at least in relation to the last iteration of Designer, which was my point of reference). And I believe this decision is really beneficial. The interface is much more homogenous to my eyes. As I had mentioned earlier, the only area I would love to see changed is the main toolbar. It should resemble the toolbar in full screen mode.

And there are a few blurry spots on non-Retina screens, namely the icons in the font dropdown and the frame of the input field on the Navigator panel. These little issues affect the dark version too.

But again, thanks for all your work on this!
Cheers, Alex :)

One minor bug... tried going to Develop persona, wanted to go back to Photo persona without changing anything, dialog box comes up saying "Please either commit or cancel the develop operation before switching to another Persona".... clicking cancel in this dialog box does nothing. One would expect it to go to the Photo persona as the dialog box seems to indicate.

One other interesting thing, when I switched from Light UI mode to Dark UI mode, initially the selected tool keeps a light gray highlight. If I clicked on it again, it went back to the Darker highlight mode. I've gotta tell you, the lighter highlighted tool stands out far quicker to my eye than the darker highlight. See screen shots below.

Default language should honour the currently set decimal separator.

Hey there.

For me this point still doesn't work out as I assumed or hoped.

The situation is this: my default/system language is German and the most used symbol for differing decimals is comma –
not just that but it's also the symbol on every german keyboard numbpad.

But I like to run programs in english (better/international wording for some tools, functions, filters e.g. and just simply my preference).

Just now I sat down and did some testing, hoping for enlightenment or at least give me a reason to just go with the german settings.

UI set to English:

  1. If I type 12,5 (comma) the application will decline the new value. The parameters are set back to the previous value.
  2. If I type 12.5 (period) the application will accept the new value.

UI set to German (or system language for that matter):

  1. If I type 12,5 (comma) the application will accept the new value.
  2. If I type 12.5 (period) the application will – also – accept the new value. I find this strange.

I expected the German setting to refuse the use of period as a dividing symbol, just as it is the case with comma and the English setting.

My question/s:

  • Why is the app behaving like this?
  • Will this get fixed/changed/optimized any time soon?
  • Is it supposed to work like that?
  • What can I do to change it without changing the way my system works?

There’s also a topic about this or at least a very similar problem leading to this, dating back three years with some recent activity about this matter – it does apply to both apps btw.

Greetings and thanks for the great updates nonetheless

Dennis :10_wink:

Yes, I agree, this is a bit unfortunate. It would be great, if we simply had a preference option to set the decimal separator as we like. Sounds a bit esoteric at first glance, but as Dennis said, I do also like to use the apps in English, and the numpad comma is a stumbling stone then. Well, I believe one could create a custom keyboard layout, as I did some years ago for entering and editing ancient Greek text, but my level of suffering obviously has not become high enough to start a similar attempt for the comma. ;)

Maybe an idea for version 1.6.1. :)

I've changed it now to account for this. The new beta should use your system's main language decimal separator independent of the chosen language set in Designer/Photo.

I have two screens, my macbook and the eizo cs240. After moving the App from Eizo to the macbook screen the edited picture disappear and I have found no way to get it back except with a new start of the app.

Affinity 1.6.6 Beta 7, MacOS High Sierra.

PS: In 1.6.6 Beta 8 the same problem.

Solved in 1.6.6 GM!!! Thanks.
