mb7
Hi, It seems that when I try to select objects on the artboard I need to drag to around the entire object in order to select it... I think that in any graphic software I worked with before, it was sufficient to select only a part of the object so this UX seems very strange. It feels more like a bug or maybe something I need to change in the preferences. any help would be appreciated. (I just bought Affinity designer to give it a try so if there something i missed sorry for the spamming)

toltec
What on earth is 'scrubby' zoom ? Has to be a Mac only thing Quote Windows PCs. Photo and Designer, latest non-beta versions.
A_B_C
With “scrubby” zoom engaged and the zoom tool selected, you can simply click at a target point the canvas and drag the magnifying glass to the right or to the left to zoom in or zoom out (around that target point) respectively. Has to be a Mac only thing In the early versions of Affinity Designer (before there was a Windows version), the Zoom Tool was not "scrubby" -- to use it you could click & drag out a marquee, which the view would zoom in to when you released the mouse button. To zoom back out, you had to click with the alt/option key pressed, which would zoom the view back out in small steps. This prompted a feature request for what was termed "scrubby zoom," which works as A_B_C described. toltec
OK, thank you. It seems we have it, we just don't have a name for it. Quote Windows PCs. Photo and Designer, latest non-beta versions.
R C-R
I had never heard the term before I saw it mentioned in the feature requests but apparently it first appeared as a Photoshop CS5 option circa 2011. (The non-scrubby version is known as "marquee zoom," should you be wondering about that.) On Macs, with scrubby zoom enabled users can temporarily get the marquee zoom behavior by holding down the alt/option key. This is sometimes handy when using CMD + Spacebar to temporarily switch to the Zoom Tool, but Mac users have to press the spacebar first, & then CMD and/or Alt/option to avoid a potential conflict with the Mac OS command that brings up the Spotlight search feature, so it is not something I use very often. I don't know if there is anything equivalent for Windows -- with one less modifier key, there may not be.
