NIK Software Not Working on Sierra 10.12.6

Recommended Posts

I loaded the NIK plug-ins, but Affinity lists all of them as 'unknown' even after checking the 'allow unknown plug in's'. Does anyone know a good work around? I know that other people are using NIK with Affinity so it is puzzling. Thanks.

Being listed as "Unknown" should not prevent them from being used if 'Allow "Unknown" plugins to be used' is checked -- that is what that option is for.

Have you tried using them?

RC-R & Littletank,

When you go to open the various apps like Viveza, etc., they are all greyed out and can't be opened except for Color Effects. I followed the instructions for installation carefully so I'm at a loss as to how to fix the problem if it is even possible.

The Plugin Support Folder list should say just "/" not "/Applications/Adobe Photoshop ..." That is what the red "Requires Global Support" warning means.

Set it to "/" & click the "Authorize Global" button to confirm.

R C-R,

Thanks for the info. The software has been loaded, however, Viveza 2 opens the image and the colors are completely off, desaturated and with a magenta cast. Have you heard of other people having the same sort of problem with Viveza in Affinity?

Regards,

Everett

A search of the forums on "Viveza" turns up several topics, among them this one. It is in the Windows bugs section but it may apply to both Macs & Windows.

There is also an Affinity official video that explains in some detail how to install the NIK Collection for Mac Affinity Photo here (Vimeo) or here (YouTube).

As James Riston mentions in the video, while it is not required it is possible to install the plugins to a custom location in addition to & independent of one in a Photoshop or other app's Applications Plug-ins folder. Because I had an old version of PSE installed when I installed the collection & I knew I would eventually delete PSE from my system, I elected to add a custom location in the /Applications/ folder, which I named "Nik Collection." Thus, my Plugins Search Folders list was set to "/Applications/Nik Collection."

If I had not done this, deleting PSE from my system would have deleted the NIK installer's default PSE application plugins folder along with the rest of the app, but more important to me was that the contents of the custom install location remained independent of anything PSE might do to the configuration or any other of its support files.

I don't know if this would make any difference for @Everett but it is IMO worth considering -- all I know for sure is I have had no problems with any of the plugins.

Thank you, Everett! I agree. I just bought a new computer and went to purchase Photoshop to find out they went to a monthly payment and I'm not willing to pay it so I just bought Affinity. I thought it was something I did wrong (and now I wish it was, lol). I hope they can resolve the issue.

Hi Kriss,

Despite appear unknown in yellow in the list (in Preferences, Photoshop Plugins section) you can still run them from the Filters menu. Currently not all plugins work correctly but a few of them are running. Please check the list on this page for compatibility info (it's being updated for version 1.6). Click on the name of each plugin for more details.
