Though AFAIK you have to explicitely download it, it's not installed as default. - See:

This was indeed optional before 1803.

If you do a upgrade or fresh installation you have it. You can't even uninstall it. Try it yourself.

HEIF is here. It's time.

I think there is enough reason that Affinity should fully support it on all platforms.

So just to confirm, Affinity does not support HEIF yet? I'm planning to ditch the cloud-based subscription soon and looking for alternates but having HEIF support would be ideal.

Photo 1.7 Beta will Open HEIC files on Windows. I don't know about on Mac.

(I can no longer find the sample file I tested it with on Windows. So if someone has a sample file I'd appreciate seeing it.)

Hi Skippermark,
Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
Affinity Photo 1.7 does support HEIC files (read only, not write).

Hi! Will this be for Mac too? I'm super excited if so. Thanks!

Long ago asked, but in case someone's interested, here are Nokiatech conformance files at github:

https://github.com/nokiatech/heif_conformance/tree/master/conformance_files

Photo (Windows version) fails the following 16 formats:

C001.heic
C026.heic
C027.heic
C028.heic
C029.heic
C030.heic
C031.heic
C032.heic
C036.heic
C037.heic
C038.heic
C041.heic
multilayer001.heic
multilayer002.heic
multilayer004.heic
multilayer005.heic

But this is a complex format, Microsoft Windows 10 fails 18 formats, macOS Mojave 12 formats, and e.g. GIMP 15 formats.

Btw, GIMP can write both lossless  and compressed format that Photo can read.
