Upgrade discounts for customers

Recommended Posts

Question, when I received the notification ( Affinity Photo ) about the upgrade to 1.5 ( Windows 7 ), i clicked for more. Pricing was about 49£. i ticked the box for existing customer and price remained the same...???? i have been a long standing customer with Serif for nearly a decade buying  most of the X? legacy programs. Signed up for the Beta for Designer and Photo ( Affinity ) , and bought both products and when I saw no discount - I was shocked. I will probably still get the Upgrade, because I really like the programs, but was cut in my ' valued customer status' mentality severely .

Whatever happened to treating good customers properly. ?

One thing I might wish in Designer which was really good in DrawPlus X8 was the animation features - Is there an plans to incorporate that.

I'm confused!  Are you saying you've already bought AP and are now being asked to pay for an upgrade?  If so, something's very wrong - point releases are free.  If you were expecting to make a first purchase of an Affinity product at a discounted price by virtue of being an existing Serif customer then I think that's an unreasonable expectation - while I always got a discount for major upgrades (not point releases) of the old Serif programs, I don't remember getting them for new purchases.

I don't think it's at all unreasonable for existing Serif customers to expect a discount, given that that's exactly what we were told would happen when the Windows versions of the Affinity apps were announced. In the event, we did get a launch discount – but so did everyone else! I think it was widely understood that existing users of DrawPlus X8 or PhotoPlus X8 would qualify for a discount on Affinity Designer or Affinity Photo (respectively) regardless of the date of purchase: that doesn't seem to be the case.

Back in the mists of time, existing users of any Serif software product could make new purchases at deeply discounted prices, even if their only registered products were free versions. Several years ago they changed the rules so that the maximum discount was only available to registered users of the previous version of the same product, with a smaller discount being offered if you owned the latest version of any other 'flagship' product.

Hello Ian and Alfred. The situation is that I bought both affinity products after they were released on completion of the Beta testing.  I've always like Serif products and I know I will get the upgrade. It might mean that I will need to call them tomorrow morning , hoping a service clerk is still there who always gave a discount, even after doing a good bit of up-selling on there products. I didn't mind because like I said, I like them. I bought draw plus X2; X3; X4 then X8, Photoplus X2; X3; X4 then X8 and also Page plus X2; X3; X4;X8 and X9. this was also with the movie plus X3; Web Plus X3 and X4 as well as all the otherproducts  that caught my interest from Serif. I think I am a good customer so I hope they will see this and give the customer service I hope.

Maybe it's just that I will need to do this to make it a bit more of a personal touch and not just a few clicks on a keyboard. It's worked before.

Once again Ian and Alfred. Thank you for your input, i feel more empowered when I call them

Like @IanSG, I'm confused! Both Designer and Photo became available for Windows at version 1.5, and we are all anxiously awaiting the AD and APh version 1.6 retail releases (the customer beta releases of which have been available for many weeks now). The 1.6 updates will be free to existing users of earlier 1.x versions, so there currently is nothing available to buy unless you want Affinity Photo for iPad.
