New user... unhappy but ready to try

Recommended Posts

I purchased Affinity Photo - not given in terms of pricing at $70, in hope to get rid of Photoshop.

However, just launching the program and opening an existing photo - way before trying anything - seems to give me an image that is already, right there, distorted and far from the original. Using the zoom make things even worse. This is supposed to be an app to enhance, correct, modify - but not at opening the picture. Is this only me ? I am seriously thinking to ask Apple Store for a refund. I am presented with comments that claim to finally have a good substitute for Photoshop (I had CS6 under an older OSX but now under El Capitan 10.11.6 I can't use it anymore and no way I wanted to go for the subscription mode).  But gee...

I've tried it under 2 different machines : a desktop (iMac) 27 inches, under El Cap 10.11.6 and on my Macbook Pro 13 under Sierra (10.12.6).  Same kind of results. I'm not even trying (yet) to use the features: what's the point is you're already working with a picture that is not the reality outside the program ?

Thanks for insights, if any...

Hi, lanstrad

Are the photos in RAW format?  I know there have been threads where people have asked if their camera's RAW for file is supported at this point.

Personally, I hope more info will show up on this thread. I've never needed a camera w. RAW output, but am considering trying one, tho' it seems a very complex issue.
