Tony H-S
Hi, I am just testing the trial version of Affinity Paint on Windows to see if it does what I want. I load a TIFF version of a photo and the Inpaint option is greyed out. Is this because it is a trial version, or does it not work on TIFF files? JFisher
Hi AspiringMCC Welcome to the forums! The Inpainting tool does work on the trial version, make sure you have the correct layer selected in the Layers panel, then try the Inpainting Brush Tool again. Alfred
Go to the Layers panel and check whether your photo layer is designated as a '(Pixel)' layer or an '(Image)' layer. If the latter, you need to right-click it and choose 'Rasterize...' so that you can work on it at the pixel level (instead of treating it as a single object). Staff MEB Posted September 30, 2017 Staff Share Posted September 30, 2017 Hi Tony H-S, Welcome to Affinity Forums That command only becomes available when you have a pixel selection active. What i believe you want to try is the Inpainting Brush Tool to remove elements from the image just painting over them. To access it click the small arrow in the Healing Brush Tool to open a popup where you can select it. See the screenshot below. If you open the TIFF file using the File ▸ Open command you can use this tool immediately since it will be loaded as a Pixel layer type (see the label between parenthesis after the layer's name in the Layers panel). If you use the File ▸ Place command or drag the image from File Explorer to an existing opened document in Affinity Photo it will be inserted as an Image layer type. To use the Inpainting Brush Tool here you have to first convert the layer to a Pixel layer right-clicking on it in the Layers panel and selecting Rasterise... Image layers retain all original image data and can be transformed (scaled, rotated, etc) globally without losing quality, however you can't edit them at a pixel level. For that you have to convert them to Pixel layers as explained.
