What's Causing Outlined Fonts?

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to create an image which contains text on a background. Nothing fancy.

Unfortunately, the fonts are all showing up as outlines, with the desired color only forming the outline.

I have no idea what's causing this and the unwanted effect is uniform across all fonts. In other words, changing the font won't fix this.

How can I restore a "normal" text font?

It looks as though your text has a dark grey fill and a pale yellow stroke. Is it Artistic Text? What colours do you see in the Colour panel or on the Context toolbar when you select the layer with the Move Tool or the Text Tool?

Are you using Affinity Photo?

I don't know if it's Artistic Text or not. I just selected the text tool and started typing.

Affinity has two text tools, one for creating text in a predefined frame (the Frame Text Tool) & the other (the Artistic Text Tool) for text in a selection box that expands as you type. The icon for a frame text layer in the Layers panel is a T in a filled in square; for artistic text layers it is an A in an unfilled square. The icons in the Tool Panel are the same.

OK, I see that the first box represents "font color" though the only way you can discover this is if you serendipitously hover over the box.

With the Move or either text tool selecting a text layer, the Context toolbar also has items for text fill & stroke color, although if your screen or the window is too narrow to show all the Context toolbar items, they may not be visible. In that case, to access them you can click on the >> button at the right end of the toolbar to pop up a vertical menu of the items that won't fit.
