How can I move a part of the image within the image?

Recommended Posts

Hi, how can I move a part of the image within the image?
I copy the background layer and work on the new layer.
I mask a portion of the image, e.g. the lower half and would like to move the left by a few cm to the left and then to the right.
- So I make a new masking level and now?
I have tried but I can not move anything it moves always view the overall document.
Can someone help me?

Thank you and Greeting Dieter

Go to the masked layer in the Layers panel and click on the image thumbnail: this will ensure that you have selected the image, not the mask (and not the background layer). You should now be able to move the masked image with the Move Tool.

Press Ctrl + J to put one half on a separate layer. Then move it.

With this, I just made a marquee selection and pressed Ctrl + J

Yes, that would work, but you would lose the flexibility of having a mask which you can edit later.

OK. press Ctrl + J to duplicate the background.

Create a rectangle (must have a fill colour)

Right click on the rectangle layer and Mask to Below

Click on the image layer thumbnail (not the mask layer thumbnail) and drag.

Edit the mask at any time later, if required. :D

Yes, that's what I was advising the OP to do (based on my understanding of what he was already doing). :)

Hi thanks.
But I can not get there - maybe I have a failure in my brain. What setting with filling do I need to use ?.
I use the selection level and that is also shown but moving this content is not possible - only the whole document.

Which video (tutorial) can help here.

start with an image

Desert1.jpg.1382b514b5b150fb8a30a7c6bb122c4d.jpg

Make a duplicate Ctrl + J

Desert2.jpg.b60335e6c5f6bf33dfb80858e28a9bff.jpg

Draw a rectangle, with a fill colour (any colour) as a mask.

Right click on the rectangle layer and click on Mask to Below

It sounds as though you are working on an 'Image' layer, not a 'Pixel' layer. An image layer retains all of the original information so that it doesn't lose detail if you rescale or rotate it, but it is treated as a single object (so, for example, you can only copy the whole layer, not just a selected part of it). To work at the pixel level, you need to right-click on the layer in the Layers panel and choose the 'Rasterize...' option; you will then be able to duplicate selected pixels.
