Love the depth of field. Gonna have to remember that trick for my illustrations (what seetings did you use for that?)

Awesome stuff. Keep sharing, when you get the time.

Well, thank you all, I'm really glad you like my experiments

ronniemcbride: about the name, don't ask - long story. Moreover I never actually specified which Xmas, might be 2135 for all I know....

Eejits/George: I think you mean the slight gaussian blur on the background, but just slight, it's easy to go overboard (and when going overboard, I'd suggest doing so when the blurred object is in the very close foreground). And for the rest simple colorschemes, sometimes I'd just go monochrome when pushing back (of course, the further you go the more colors blend in one)

Anyway the next experiment is a retro 60's advertisement mockup - although I'm not sure how many got the connection Catroll Castrol (oil)!

I've always kind of liked the sci-fi of the time!

Hi, thank you all for the kind words.

I've been using Affinity for some paid work, even full out illustrations, but unfortunately I can't share them for the usual NDAs...shame, but it's nice to see how it has become part of my daily routine and job life.

Anyway, in between things today I started doing a thing out of the blue, with no intention of it being an illustration, but a study towards something that could be applied to future work. It's part of a series of studies to take vector illustration to a next level, somehow. And I've been thinking/obsessing on how to render nature, foliage etc. Without imitating it, but interpreting it..

Buildings and man-made stuff is in a way more straightforward - humans/animals, well, that's another stylistic problem but there is more literature. And anyway how you've seen from previous pics, I've addressed that quite a lot!!!

This is just a quick experiment from lunch time - result of some recent handrawn sketches.  I'm not sure if I'll add something or just use it as a stepping stone to apply it and perfect it, but I thought I'd share it with you

thank you

robert

Hi, welcome to the forums.

The denims, the stretched vest, blurred background and the sketches are really convincing.

As for your sketches, they would look good when converted into one of AD's raster brushes...Paolo.limincelli has really pushed the boundaries with his brush work (you should see his amazing Road Runner scene). The way you've got the fabrics just right with their touchable textures and opacity is spot on. This would be a great opportunity to build up a swatch of various fabrics: ranging from leather, suede, polyester, silk and PVC/leather. A tutorial on how to make them would also be very welcome. B)

Hi all,

Thank you all for your comments. I'm terrible at updating - although I've been carrying on using Affinity Designer so much over the last few months, especially for commissioned work - it's really part of my workflow. But I've been re-organizing all my portfolios, including a brand new website, therefore here as well I'll try to post some of the stuff I've done - some personal and some work - which usually is meeting deadlines material, so where workflow comes into prominence.

Starting with some work stuff I probably can show - I've been doing a lot of  animation assets for video explainers etc, so here  are a  few examples  along with a personal piece (more soon).

A_B_C, ha, well spotted! Yes I had to come up quickly (being a commissioned animation with strict deadline) with some "decoration" on the wall and I thought they looked good as a kind of abstract series of pictures!

Thank you Meb, I'm glad you like the website, it has been too long in the making, but it should be quite easy to update. Especially now that  the vector section will heavily feature Affinity Designer stuff.

Speaking of which, I will share a personal piece where I could spend more time and take things a bit further, giving me the opportunity to go down a path I've been wanting to explore. BTW, I decided to not use textures here (initially planned), as being quite rich in detail it would overload things. So it's a point to think about.

Here you go, cheers!

Hello again,

as this evening I was working on another personal piece I remembered I hadn't shared the latest.

Here's a series of character pics, a bit in the "street fashion" vein. (I'm linking as the uploader seems to be failing)

cheers!

Thanks all, I'll try to share as much as I can. Jeki, I use textures (sometimes), so import some on a layer, mask it using shape you want to add the texture to (that's why it's so easy to add textures to vector pics). And then adjust the kind of blend (overlay, soft light etc) for the effect you want to  achieve. I actually like it subtle.

For instance I used one on the next pic - which is a Affinity forum exclusive!

thanks again
