Text with a Shadow?

Recommended Posts

I'm very new to affinity, and have been working on this piece i've attached. I'm trying to create a shadow effect, but can't seem to figure out how to make it look proper. I've started by doing the orange text bit (which is exactly how I want it to look), I then copied it, flipped it and mirrored it, changed the colour and made the opacity low, but i'm not sure how to alter the "shadow" aspect to look like a shadow.

I'm aiming for the light source to me coming from above the "M" at an angle towards the bottom corner of the "C".

Any tips or help would be greatly appreciated!

Affinity Designer & Photo : Use "Skew" & Set the point of origin to your liking :

Skew can be reached by selecting the picture & carefully moving the mouse pointer along any edge until it becomes two little arrows pointing in opposite directions.

The little arrows only catch on the middle selection point, not the corner ones.

Setting the point of origine : Click the little "Target" Button, the point of origine becomes visible, drag the point to where you want.

Add Gaussian Blur to the shadow.

Good tutorial about creating live-like shadows :

There's also a skew control (but it's called "Shear" in the Affinity apps) in the Transform panel.

No worries, @catlover. I guess Serif are still more than a little bit attached to the nomenclature that they've used for years in their Windows-only products! To many users, the term "shear" implies cutting something off. ;)
