Duplicate objects, each ending up a specified distance from the original.

Recommended Posts

I hate to point to other software in this forum of your rather INCREDIBLE software! But... I think this will tweak some interests.

In the CorelDraw X6 package, there is a transform function. What this allows one to do is the following:

  • Select ANY kind of object you create, import or use.
  • Open up the Transform command dialog  box for that selected object
  • Then it's just a matter of "transforming" an objects location, automatically making copies of the original and pasting them a user specified distance away from the original
  • Transform an object's position on any X or Y axcess via making an automatic COPY of selected object.

I'll make this clearer.

You have a single straight line (also hard to do in your package?)

You selected the line, and then, you make copies of the line, but when the new line is placed on the page, it's placed at a specified distance from the original line.

but it's not intutieve. Nor is making a simple straight line intuitive either.

I found a way to do this In the Beta. However it's a bit trickly. you copy and paste , or duplicate and object any number of times. You have to use the custom Align/spacing function.

Hi bodycode,

Really glad you're enjoying using the program so far!

To make a straight line you just go to the Pen Tool and click to add a start point, then click to add an end point. Job done. Alternatively, if you're more of a line-dragging person (rather than clicking), you can just choose the 'Line Mode' option from the Pen Tool's context toolbar and then simply just drag a line from start to end then release the mouse. Hopefully that's straightforward :) We don't have a specific Line Tool because it's just a mode of a Pen Tool, and if it can be achieved in a number of ways already, we don't want yet another if it offers nothing extra, if you see what I mean? We're trying to be logical and productive with no bloat.

With regards to a general purpose transform dialog, if I'm understanding you correctly, this has been mentioned already and we've also already had a play with implementing this idea, but it's not ready for the beta yet. So, hopefully we'll have the functionality you're looking for really soon :)

Thanks,

Matt
