In this tutorial I'm gonna show you how to create an Ivy vector textured image brush in Affinity Designer with support of Affinity Photo in image processing.

Watching you cut out the image (Part 1 in AP) is a tip in itself! Then building the vector brush (Part 2 in AD) is also beautiful! Thanks for a great tutorial. I need to go back and watch it a couple more times to get the fine points in both parts. E.g, not sure how the red rectangle helped you in AP and, in AD, smoothing the path went by kind of fast - but I'll figure it out. :)

@everyone: A title like How to PRECISELY Extract Part of a Photo and Use it to Make a Vector Brush, although lengthy, would be a great description of this tut!

Hi jer!

Thanks for your feedback! I'v used the rectangles to find the correct alignment of the ivy branch only in AD but you could do this in AP too.

I'll will keep your idea for a better title of the tuts in mind and use a better one next time.

Here’s a simplified example comparing a pair of rectangles of the same size, but where only the one on the right is aligned to pixel boundaries:
