T10Pro
I have a photo that I outlined with the pen tool to attempt to clean up the lines. So, now I have my outlined created with the pen tool and I got rid of the background. How do I fill in my outline? I just want it to be filled in black. Attached is the file I am working on. Thanks, T10Pro new deer logo.afdesign
Staff MEB Posted August 21, 2017 Staff Share Posted August 21, 2017 Hi T10Pro, Welcome to Affinity Forums Currently you have not one but two shapes on your file (let's forget the pixel layer on the bottom of the Layers panel for a moment). The layer on top is the whole deer body. To fill it you just need to click on the Fill colour well on the context toolbar on top and select any colour you want. Note that you must first remove the layer FX effect you have applied to that layer because that effect it particular (Colour Overlay) overrides the color you set to the Fill colour. To remove the Layer FX effect, click the FX icon in front of the layer and uncheck the Colour Overlay entry. You should now be able to see the colour you have selected for the Fill in the context toolbar. Now you have a second smaller object/shape corresponding to the shape of the hole (space between deer's horns) . You will want to subtract this shape from the whole body shape to create a hole there. To do this move the smaller shape layer above the main body shape in the Layers panel - it must be on top to be able to be subtracted - , then press and hold ⌘ (cmd) a click on both shapes in the Layers panel to select both and go to menu Layer ▸ Geometry ▸ Subtract. You should now have a single shape (the main deer body) with a hole between deer's horns. This subtract operation cal also be created non-destructively if you press and hold ⌥ (option/alt) and click the subtract icon on the main toolbar in the geometry operations section (the group of five icons with blue/grey squares/circles). This will create a compound object instead, which can be expanded in the Layers panel (clicking the small arrow on the left of its thumbnail) to access the original hole shape in case you want to make some adjustments after the geometry operation has been completed. In the first case described above this hole shape is lost (it becomes part of the original main shape).
